teethdoc
I'm probably going to look at a C model in Eastern TN. Any suggestions on a mechanic for a pre-buy in that part of the country?
Bob_Belville
Bill Heybruck probably can provide info on Calvin Gregg, the A&P who was at Wilgrove and returned to his home somewhere in that area. He hasa good bit of Mooney experience. My old Mooney 9249M, is based in Knoxville. The current owner may have some suggestions. Send me a message if you'd like his contact info. rbridges
how far are you from Rome, GA? There is an MSC there.
PTK
See Dan Kendall at Cobb County (KRYY). Excellent MSC and great service.
DrBill
Calvin Gregg did my prebuy and 2 annuals. Great guy. Had to go home and work the family farm when his folks couldn't do it. His cell phone is 704 957 6829. He is still doing some aircraft work as time permits at a local airport. I believe he is in the Knoxville area (loosely speaking, He is in the middle of NO-WHERE). Give him a call and see what he can do for you. Feel free to tell him you got his number from me. He did my prebuy in about 2 hrs with assistance. I think he took about the same time with Bob. Bob_Belville
Yes, Calvin did my pre-buy and, as Bill says about his, it was an abbreviated inspection that might not satisfy someone else but suited my purpose. I bought the plane he inspected a week later reducing my offer based on what I saw at Calvin's place. (I spent more money traveling to Baltimore to see a plane that I was not interested enough to make an offer on.) We checked the engine compression, oil filter, logs, gear, fuel tanks, we removed inspection panels and checked for corrosion. Probably a little more. I'm sure several on this list will be critical of our purchase procedure. I guess it just depends upon what you want. I decided to make a lower offer and spend a few bucks fixing the small stuff. As it turned out, all the radios were working but the stormscope and the KNS80 failed in the first 6 months I owned it. A MSC would not have helped with that. They might have caught the muffler which I replaced after 6 months. A MSC would probably have noted the source of some oil leaks which were minor costs for valve cover gaskets and oil return line tubing which I replaced myself (A&P supervised) at minimal cost. DrBill
Since he is from E TN, he knows several unscrupulous dealers/mechanics that fix and sell airplanes there. He has several stories to tell. BILL

zaitcev
Do we have any other recommendations for the area? I'm having some trouble contacting Mr. Calvin Gregg at the phone that Dr.Bill provided. Thanks, Pete P.S. 3 shops about an hour away were listed in another thread: https://mooneyspace.com/topic/19507-pre-purchase-inspection/ I'll give them a call if nothing is found around Knoxville itself.
