Mooneys Over America

Hey, a bunch of us are planning to "Fly our Mooneys Over America".

 

The plan is simple.  A few of us, here in the west, have agreed to connect a some airport on May 4th... someplace like Sedona or Page, for instance.  Each afternoon, we will meet and plan our next destination.  The only rule is that it is not a long leg, maybe 2 - 21/2 hours or less.  We'll post destinations as we know them and encourage other Mooney pilots to join us if our itinerary is near their home drome.  Or ground-based folks can encourage us to fly to their home drome.  The idea is "informal".

 

After posting this in The Mooney Flyer, we have had Mooniacs from around the country show interest.  So how about this?  If you want to start a Mooneys Over America from your location, post here.  Others may join you.

 

If there is enough interest, we can plan a meet in the middle of the country, or us folks out west might just fly all the way to the east coast.

 

Let us know if you are interested.  This type of thing can be fun.

 

We are planning on starting around the 4th of May and running this for 10-12 days.

It would be nice for Mooneys in a regional area to congregate once a month ... (keep em flying). Altho this is not what the OP is suggesting.

I just saw how the Swift community all got together and flew their aircraft at the same time all over the world.  It was big news in GA.   Maybe we could keep it simple and everybody with a Mooney get airborne on a certain day?  Is there a significant day in Mooney history?  Al's birthday maybe?  I like May 14th.  I know a certain M20J that was born on that date in Kerrville, TX.

OK Albert Mooney was born on April 12th, 1906.  I don't care what every body else is doing.  I'm flying my J on April 12th, weather permitting.

The guys in the west are planning to head east until we run out of country. Other groups starting in other places can decide on their own where to go each day. We hope to meet new people each day.

We'll post our blog with pics and future destinations as we figure them out so people can join us.

We've got a cluster of Mooney owners in the Wichita area... if you want to stop here I'll try to round every one up.  If not, when you publish an itinerary I'll spread the word and see if we can get any others to join in.

Any interest to do something similar in the VA-DC-MD area? We could gather somewhere west and meet a similar group coming from the west. Like a mini Kerrville. It might take some trial and error to plan the first one but after a while it could become an interesting way to meet The Comanche Society have "tribes" (NE, SE, etc) and they have regular events.
