mooneyflyfast Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Has anyone had any experience with the Aircraftdoorseals seals? How hard are they to install and how do they work? My seal has an area about 12" long where it is split. No wind or water leak. I am tempted to splice in a new piece. I remember all the problems the last time the seal was replaced (mainly door popping open and difficulty closing the door) until the seal took a set and started fitting better. Quote
PTK Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 When I had my airplane painted a few months ago I had the shop also replace the seals. They recommended and we used the Mooney seals. I'm very happy going the OEM route. Quote
Piloto Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I have been using this seal for over 20 years for cabin and baggage door with excellent results. No air or water leaks and they last five years or more. Easy to install with self adhesive so no glue is required. You can get them at Home Depot for $4.99 for a 10ft roll. José Quote
Lood Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I followed Jose's advice when I changed my door seal a couple of years ago. The biggest job was to clean off the original seals' glue. Where the gap between the door and fuselage differs, I just added a piece of 2mm x 10mm strip for that part and it does work really well at almost no cost. Where the seal might be a bit tight, it is very easy to trim away the excess to get the perfect fit. Quote
Seth Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Jose- I'm actually going to give your solution a shot sometime soon. My F had a good seal but the Missile does not and with the higher speeds the hiss is indeed present. I've lived with it for a year and a half in the Missile (can't believe I've had it that long already and have't had my F for that long already) but it's time to give it a shot. I'm sure I'll have good results, and I figured I'd try the $5 fix prior to the OEM door seal fix. All Smiles - if it doesn't work, I'm going OEM. -Seth Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 In installed an inflatable door seal. It works great. Quote
PTK Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 The cost Δ of aftermarket vs oem was minimal so I decided to go with oem. They were the original seals we replaced from when it was born. Judging by how long they lasted, these new ones will outlast me! Quote

PTK Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Called around trying to find a MSC that would have both in stock. Just so happens Premier had a pair on the shelf. Quote
