Jeff_S Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 Wow. Our Christmas Wish List thread introduces a little bit of soft-core porn into the Forum, but the the above post just uses pure old gutter slang. Seeing as we do have a multi-gender user base, perhaps we should back off just a bit from the vulgarity? 1 Quote
BigTex Posted December 8, 2012 Author Report Posted December 8, 2012 Was he a little low? Sure. But no pilot would be looking down at flair. We are all taught to focus toward the end of the runway at that point of the approach. Based on the speed the driver was traveling, I suspect she would of blasted right past any sign even if it was flashing. So I put this squarely on the driver's shoulders. Quote
BigTex Posted February 16, 2013 Author Report Posted February 16, 2013 Footnote to this story... You'll be happy to hear that the student pilot involved in this accident jumped back on that horse and received his PPL! Quote
KSMooniac Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Great! I wonder who got the insurance bills, and if a stop sign has been installed. Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2 Quote
BigTex Posted February 16, 2013 Author Report Posted February 16, 2013 Nope... Over there today and nothing has changed on the signage front. Quote
gsengle Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 Can't resist adding a vote. Drivers have no obligation (it certainly isn't on the drivers test) to see and avoid aircraft. However, pilots do have to obey displaced thresholds. This one is clear. That displaced threshold is a LONG one. Pilots fault. g Quote
201er Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 Displaced threshold only means you can't touch down on it. Nothing says or suggests you can't float a foot above in ground effect and land on the numbers. Quote
RJBrown Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 It is obvious from the video and the Volvo couple's interview that he knew he should stop and did not. It appears to me that he was rushing to beat the plane. Kind of like racing a train to the crossing. Really stupid. I have flown in there a couple of times. Poor design. There needs to be better signage on the road. The runway is in such poor (multicolored) condition it is almost impossible to read any markings. Quote
