Yesterday I began instructing a new Mooney owner in his 67 C model. The plane has an externally mounted “thing” on the left cowl about 3’ aft of the propeller.  I don’t recognize it.  Any idea what it is?

I like the mini Venturi idea.  It looks pretty ancient. Any idea what a Venturi that small could be used for, though? It would be really interesting to see what is on the back of it.

Pilot range extender?

That’s an air horn that makes the Stuka dive bomber sound when you put it into a dive.  It’s purpose is to strike fear in the hearts of Cessna and Piper pilots.

Turbo encabulator port. Those are pricey to replace especially from Lasar (I am told) but can be overhauled by a few shops if needed.

Surprised I'm the first to recognize it.
