As my project is winding down I am putting together the doghouse. I can't find the correct original tinnerman speed/clip nuts.

I have several missing and the rest are damaged.

Manual calls out A6187-4z-1 aka

 NAS395-1-3

The original ones are very small and slim marked with a T-4z.

Anybody come up with something that works well. I don't mind going up to #6.

On the picture, the left one is the one that I suspect is original and correct. The middle and the right are the closest ones I could find.

Thanks

Glenn

I was annoyed with those tinnerman nut / speed nuts / clip nuts or what ever they are called.  and re-did the whole engine baffling with #6 nut plates so I don't have to change screwdriver tip sizes #1 and #2. edge margin maybe questionable but the machine screws is less likely work it self loose and plus they have more of a bite than sheet metal screws Tinnerman/speed nut apparatus could ever give. tried of fishing out the lose  Tinnerman/speed nut would work them self loose or missing.

I wish I could throw away my doghouse and install baffles . . . . .

I’m surprised there was never an STC to remove the doghouse.  I wouldn’t think it would be that hard.  @Sabremech accomplished this when he redesigned the entire cowling on the 180hp version… I’d be interested if he thinks this would be viable, without the total redesign that he did.

It’s entirely possible and wasn’t too difficult to get a 337 for. I used VAN’s baffles and slightly modified them at cylinders 1 & 2 because they weren’t quite large enough to fit our cowls.

McMastercarr has the smaller clips.  I have ordered from them in the past.

Do you by any chance have the part number I ordered some from mcmaster carr and they were wrong

If you have a 1967-ish E or F, you should have the newer design strengthened upper cowling which is the most important piece of the puzzle. The parts manual for that year lists both types of baffles. The switchover from doghouse to open baffling happened sometime that year (but after my build date, but I do have the newer style upper cowling). It comes down to part numbers.

Do you happen to remember what Van’s Aircraft model baffles you used? I have no problem fabricating new side pieces for cylinders 1 & 2, but I’d like a complete kit to start from

I don’t recall the McMaster Pn. But that’s where I grabbed them. Years ago…

If Spencer’s has them that would be great. I thought they just did cheesy pilot supplies and such. Didn’t realize they have hardware too.  I have one of their chairs and it’s Awesome!!

I’ve used the Vans BAF-360 kit for the 180 hp Mooney and the BAF-8-IO360 kit for the 200 hp Mooney.
