Engine/Prop is at 2400HRS? I have a friend looking for an O but if the engine is original, its quite a steep ask.

But it's definitely a Unicorn. No other 2005 Ovation that I know of has retro-fitted WAAS and a GFC700 autopilot. Those two items alone would cost $100,000 to retro-fit.   Plus O2, TKS, DME, WX-500 and SkyWatch Active Traffic.

(Mooney didn't start putting in the GFC-700 into Ovations until late 2007-ish.

Find another one like it and price it out.

The optional equipment caught my eye. Maybe the owner has been maintaining things carefully on condition... Might be different from simple neglect.

If you're looking for a specific 2005 then indeed a unicorn but the G1000 and GFC700 is no better than a G3X and GFC500 etc etc . Plenty of great O's, many with the 310HP STC potentially better value (at least for my friend who's looking). No disrespect to the seller and I'm not of those people who go to posts of planes people list and moan about their prices. This is certainly a beautiful bird that will make someone happy.

You nailed it ! 

And there's a story behind this :   The Owner of this Ovation is Jacques Cailles, a friend, is very well known in France & Europe. I call him "Monsieur G A "  .  He is the Editor in Chief and owner of the french language GA Magazine, Aviation & Pilote .  Jacques is a good friend of Nicolas Chabbert and Nicolas was the  Director of Mooney in the early 2000's , now the Director of Daher Aviation ( TBM ). 

So Jacques got special treatment when he ordered N77GJ and the GFC700 was actually fitted by Daher when the Ovation got back to France since Mooney had never installed one.

At any rate, this Ovation has been VERY well cared for by Jacques and it has always been hanagerd , flies almost exclusively IFR and generally long-range trips.

Jacques just flew GJ from Paris to Manchester New Hampshire in complete confidence and ZERO problems  !

Hi Nick - Have you actually spent any time Flying a G1000 / GFC700 equipped plane ?   

I have, most recently a 2013 Piper Mirage G1000  back-to-back with a Piper Malibu with retro-fitted EFIS. There really is no comparison.

Personally, I agree with @NickG. Yes I have flown G1000/GFC700 combos and teach in them. Yes, they are great to fly but they have a huge downside. Being an OEM product, the ability to upgrade, or simply do software updates, is controlled by the airframe manufacturer. With a G3X/GTN/GFC package, it’s within the control of the aircraft owner. 
 

Question for @N177MC: can you create random holding patterns in that flavor of G1000?

Before I ever flew the G1000 I had pre-judged it and used to think that it wasn't as capable as it is. Even after I flew it for more than two years I didn't know nearly what all it was capable of.

In August 2024 I went to Garmin in Olathe KS and took an intensive two day course on it. They set it up so that I had a G1000 simulator in front of me with Mooney 401.37 software on it and I learned how many more things it was capable of that I wasn't using.  Everyone has their own opinions, to which they are entitled, but I personally wouldn't trade it for a G3X/GTN/GFC panel, which is still a very capable panel. 

And yes you can create custom holds.

Yes, I have nearly 40 hours in a G6 SR22 with Perspective Plus (G1000). I’ll take my all glass G3X (wEIS)/GF500/GTN750 over it anytime. I find the G1000 interface a little clunky and counterintuitive.

No pre judging here. I have many hours behind a G1000. A fine system, no doubt but wouldn’t command a premium over a G3X/GFC500 all glass panel to me. Plus lack of upgrade ability in the G1000 is an issue as technology evolves.

FWIW, the g1000 perspective in the Cirrus is a completely different interface than the mooney.

The G1000 does feel counterintuitive when you first start using.  It almost defies explanation, you just have to use it to understand.  But it is logical, and once you understand how to manipulate it, it is extremely intuitive and capable.  I am not trying to convince anyone to like it, but aside from flightstream, there isn't really anything to upgrade to, it already has it all in there.

Except a touch screen and upgradability to whatever the future may bring. But hey, they're all great systems and science fiction when compared to where we were when I got my certificate in 1986.

The issue is whether it provides enough value to compensate for a 2400 hour 20-year-old past TBO engine (no matter how well maintained). For some it may be enough, for others not. As I'm looking in the market for an O for a good friend (I'm already situated nicely with my O), I was merely mentioning that I thought the price was a bit steep regardless of the avionics or maintenance history. Again, I'm sure it'll make a wonderful bird for someone, and I wish the OP a speedy sale!

The GNS430 was the original robot sent back from the future to kill Sarah Conner. The G1000 is the second movie...

But seriously, Garmin has common paradigms within similar generations of gear. Realizing this really helped me get going with the G1000. It's intuitive coming from GNS430/530, not really if you're coming from ipadville.

There is a lot more buried beneath the surface. I am hoping to follow @LANCECASPERs advice and do the factory course. 

I really wondered prior to getting the plane about all the pros and cons, but I find the system generally to be under rated in many respects. 

For actual piloting I think the touchscreen would be the only real addition that would help with interactional "bandwidth" (from a UX point of view).

Well, I have been flying a touch screen analog to the g1000.  two 500txi a 750xi and 650xi.  

While the touch screen is convenient on the ground and occasionally in the air, I would happily give it up for some more buttons for input.  its pretty difficult to hit some of those little touch screen buttons unless it is very smooth.  I prefer the tactile feel of a keypad and buttons but I know I am an anachronistic village destroyer...

LOL! That is actually a good point. The numerous softkeys do shorten the path a lot. I probably underuse those vs. the cursor and menu button. 

I get some of the modern Garmin experience via the Aera 760 and you're right, in turbulence touchscreens aren't always the best.

As for speed, with the G1000 I think it feels most restrictive when slewing the cursor; touching the screen would be faster (assuming you can do that on an 1000 NXi [?]). But for many tasks, it's only a few presses and very fast.

…until there is a new feature you would like to have and can’t (and not just because of cost). The non-WAAS G1000 with the KAP140 had it all in there too. We have one of those in our club and, yes, when I do transition training for a new member who got their private with a simple flight deck, they are amazed by all it can do. But most of our instrument rated members insist in the WAAS/GFC700 one for trips.

I’ve flown and taught G1000 in Cessnas, Diamonds, Pipers, Bonanzas, and Cirruses (had the opportunity for a Mooney one but had a scheduling conflict). The different OEM looks and feels is inconsequential. But I alway have to grab a Pilot Guide and AFMS to see what “this one” is capable of.
