BlueSky247 Posted July 13 Report Posted July 13 How are those of you using Savvy doing the log uploads? Is this mostly a garmin pilot thing, or are folks using sd cards and/or usb cables? I'd like to make sure whichever EM I go with isn't going to require a bunch of work after every flight just to upload the logs. Looks like the JPI require a usb link? Quote
MikeOH Posted July 13 Report Posted July 13 My G3 Insight creates simple csv files on an SD card. I use an SD to Lightning adaptor to upload on my iPad. Pretty straightforward. If you do this upload after every flight it's very easy. My issue has been I only upload every month or two and I have not been able to upload multiple files at once; I think it's an Apple iOS issue (maybe lack of knowledge on my part). The Savvy upload screen is easy to use. 1 Quote
Marc_B Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 MVP-50 downloads to jump drive. Keep it on my keychain and download at the end of flights when I get home. If so inclined you could extend your frequency of downloads and do it once a month if you wanted, but easy enough to do it with each return home. Easy to upload onto Savvy’s site. 1 Quote
dominikos Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 Dynon HDX exports all flights on demand to USB stick. I bring it back home and upload the entire file. Savvy is able to extract multiple flights. It also identifies duplicates. The process is quite painless, I do it once a month or so. 1 Quote
Rick Junkin Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 (edited) I upload my data from the G3X SD card to the Savvy website by pulling it out and inserting it into an SD card adapter plugged into my iPad before I leave the cockpit. Piece of cake. You could do the same thing with anything that uses an SD card or USB stick, you just need the right adapter. EDIT: I use split-screen mode on the iPad and just drag the log files into the Savvy upload box. Cheers, Junkman Edited July 14 by Rick Junkin Added “how-to” detail 2 Quote
0TreeLemur Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 The JPI EDM900 in my J is powered by the master bus, not the avionics bus. It has a USB "mini B" port on the front. At the end of a flight after I shut down the engine and turn off the avionics master, I plug a USB stick with a short 1/2" USB-A to USB-Mini B adapter into the JPI. It asks "Download new data, or all data". Press "new data". It takes about 15 seconds to download 30 hours of flight recorded every 2 seconds. Then I switch off the master. Once I get home I just plug that USB stick without the Mini B adapter into my PC and upload the data to Savvy. 1 1 Quote

Rick Junkin Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 1 hour ago, Fly Boomer said: That answers my question for @Rick Junkin above. @0TreeLemur was talking about download speed from his JPI to the USB, which is fast. Uploads to the Savvy site are slower but still fast, something less than 10 seconds per log file. I don’t see much difference whether I upload from my iPad or my computer using wifi, and using “cellular”on the iPad only takes a few seconds longer. It takes more time to set up split screen with the Savvy site and the files app than it does to transfer the data. Cheers, Junkman 1 Quote
BlueSky247 Posted July 14 Author Report Posted July 14 Thanks guys. I was hoping someone might have something like an onboard wifi bridge and a setup that automatically phones home. But I guess that’s reserved for the new seven digit planes for now. Quote
Scottknoll Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 AirSync says it can do that. I looked into it, but never did sign up. About 1AMU of equipment and $500/year, but it does claim to automatically send the data to Savvy among other products.https://www.air-sync.com/airsync-bridge-kit/ 1 Quote

I am ultimately hoping to have a hangar with wifi, so wouldn't need the cell portion. But it's good to hear there is at least something to make things more hands-off. Quote
