NickG Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 Well, my yoke mounted electric trim switch just gave up the ghost. Its a BK 200-01902-0000. Even though I have a GFC-500 etc I guess the stay with the BK switch as the Garmin switch won't fit. Apparently, the switch costs $1,800+ Anyone else have this problem> I saw much older post where this was mentioned. Anyone have any advice? 1994 Ovation Quote

If it's the internal electrical switch, some have figured out how to replace them. Quote

Someone will come along shortly with instructions on sourcing the switches. If the plastic parts are not broken, you are probably in good shape. Quote
PeteMc Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 I just went through this. The switch may be repairable if you have the time and talent. I almost went down that path, but ultimately went with a new switch because of time and not having the tools or work bench I used to have back in the day. I did have the shop keep my old one, so it may end up on Ebay some time if I ever get around to it. As for your $1,800 price, if some shop has one on the shelf and offers you that price TAKE IT!! There was a price increase a year or so ago and I confirmed I wasn't getting gouged with my old mechanic. You're now looking at $2,100+ if they have to order one. 1 Quote

I have found a used one in working condition for $700… I will likely pull the trigger on that one. Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 I have one or two used ones, but I'm not sure of the part numbers. I can try to find them later this evening and send some pics, and would sell them for less than $700. Quote

PT20J Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 The Cygnet CA3112-G switch used by Garmin can be made to fit in the B-K base. Someone else posted this picture of his installation: 1 Quote
NickG Posted June 6, 2024 Author Report Posted June 6, 2024 That looks great - although it looks like a whole unit would need to be fabricated. I have the trim switch, disconnect button, CWS button on the top panel and PTT and speed brake button on the back and side, respectively. I wonder if that's going to cost more than just replacing the switch... Quote
PT20J Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 Looks to me like they just made a flat plate to go over the top of the B-K base. The PTT is still on the front. The GFC 500 doesn’t use the CWS button. Looks pretty straightforward. 1 Quote

PT20J Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 According to the GFC 500 STC, the red button should be labeled AP DISC/TRIM INT or AP DISC. It looks like the CWS legend next to the black button in your picture has worn off or been painted over. Quote
NickG Posted June 7, 2024 Author Report Posted June 7, 2024 I just took some better photos. I'm not sure what the black button under the AP discon. button does. Aynhow, I need a new trim switch! Quote
Bolter Posted June 7, 2024 Report Posted June 7, 2024 Based on context, it may be (or have been) a CWS switch. It would be spring loaded like a PTT switch. You hold it down, and the AP will let go of the controls permitting easy human inputs until you release the CWS switch. In my J, this returned the KAP 150 AP back to the same settings. In my R with STEC 55x, the CWS release puts me into a reduced wing-level AP mode, losing the HDG/NAV and ALT setting. Not sure which yours might do. Try it! Another yoke mounted switch you can have is a remote flip-flop for the radio or remote for xpdr IDENT. Just me $.02 worth -dan 1 Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 7, 2024 Report Posted June 7, 2024 Here is the switch assembly I currently have. I thought I had a second, but I'm not sure if I still have it, or where it is! I have no idea what part number it is, but the buttons and switches feel like they should, and the switches return to center with a satisfying click/snap. So is the button on the side for the Speed Brakes (per the label)? Have you tried to trace out the wires? Maybe it went to some Nav Device or something else that was removed sometime in the past. I believe the black button was for the original CWS feature of the KFC150 that was replaced with the GFC500. Quote
