We have Carling rocker switches. I wanted to know what type, so I grabbed a multimeter - and got puzzled.

The middle yellow wire comes from CB, the white goes to load. With the master off, I see continuity from that yellow terminal to ground (frame). If CB is pulled, no continuity. Circuit otherwise works fine.

My thinking was that , if there's continuity, it must be a fault. But the breaker doesn't trip... Is this normal or should I get a shop to investigate?

I don't know for certain, the wiring diagram should show how it's wired, but if the master relay is double-pole it could be arranged so that if energized it connects to the battery and if not it connects to ground.

I was totally confused on a cessna project once, getting continuity to ground when there shouldn't.  I eventually discovered the flap switch was partially down providing a path to ground even though everything else was off.

It should be clear if you look at the schematic for your serial number whether it’s wired this way or whether there is a fault.

I recommend getting the part number from the switch and get that particular diagram from the CT website. It will help understand the circuitry’s design.

They do, an LED though, not a backlight
