Need someone to go check out a Mooney M20E at KIYK AIRPORT, INYOKERN, CALIFORNIA

I am in discussion with owner to purchase his Mooney M20E, located at KIYK airport, INYOKERN, CALIFORNIA ............. The aircraft is not yet flyable but we need someone that might be abel to stop over and look it over for us, just a quick lookover of sorts and let us know what they see. This airport is very near to the CHINA LAKE NAVAL FACILITY, there is a lot of RESTRICTED AIRSPACE over there, I am not sure about the issues of flying into INYOKERN AIRPORT due to CHINA LAKE FACILITY, there may be some Government operations going on that might prevent easy access, not sure ............. Please give me a call or text to my cellphone if you might be able to help out, willing to pay something towards your effort to check it out for us.

Kind regards, Mark Casillas

Howdy, I’m a mobile A&P/IA and super 21 owner. I’m extremely familiar with Mooneys and I own and operate my own Barefoot Aviation. We travel coast to coast for prepurchase inspections and aircraft maintenance. Please give us a shout if you need someone for a prepurchase, we’d love to help!

Looking at the sectional chart that airport is in an MOA and next to but not in a restricted area.  As long as the MOA isn’t active for the altitude you plan on flying it is no different than flying anywhere else that isn’t an MOA.

Even if the MOA is active you can still fly through legally, some just consider it inappropriate to potentially interrupt a military training mission for your own convenience.

It's been several years since I've been to KIYK, but I can't imagine it being a problem.  Too much support for aviation in that town.  China Lake is all about air weapons.

My cousin lives in Ridgecrest, flew into Inyokern for her wedding in May of 2017. Any chance this is the E you’re looking for? Always tried to park next to any Mooney sitting on the ramp. If it is the one, it was rough back then. They should probably just give it to you to get it flying. Hope you get her back in the air!!!e5f5b89f23cabb250ee29bcba413816f.jpg
