TheBearFlies Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 My yoke mount broke yesterday. Looking for tried and true solutions. Can be yoke or other as long as it works in the Mooney cockpit. Mine is an Ovation. Tell me what is working for you.

glbtrottr Posted August 22, 2023 Report Posted August 22, 2023 RAM makes a 1” ball with every imaginable attachment. One of those is a portruding threaded fitting / bolt end that fits practically any unused instrument mount hole. You can’t get much more sturdy than a screwed on 1” ball, pick your spot. You can then use a short arm to your iPad, 696/796/760/696 mount anywhere you want. I have practically every garmin portable with a 1” ball mount behind it. No suction coming apart or loose in flight, just a nice portable being constantly charged Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I love ram mount but the items below are just as good and a lot cheaper. I did have to put another strip of rubber inside the handlebar clamp to make it small enough to grip the yoke's shaft though.
natdm Posted August 22, 2023 Report Posted August 22, 2023 Pivot Cases. Love mine. Wife has one too. It's a case that goes on to the iPad, and then a mount that goes on to the yoke. It's clean and disconnects fast. The case also acts as a stand. Downfall: The case for the iPad mini is the worst one. All others are good.

midlifeflyer Posted August 23, 2023 Report Posted August 23, 2023 I've been a RAM on the yoke guy for all 12 years I've used an iPad. Standard analog panel. Never seemed to block anything important.

BTW, the ARKON Robust mount cradle is excellent too. I avoid magnetic mounts in airplanes although I use them in cars.
Zippy_Bird Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 Hello @TheBearFlies My iPad mini is pilot-yolk mounted. The base attachment point is a RAM "tough-claw" that squeezes/pinches the horizontal arm of the yolk between the center and the outside vertical hand grips. I currently have my base clamped on the right side horizontal arm. The "tough-claw" has a 1" ball. I then attach a RAM 3" arm, which then connects back to a 1" ball on the back of the iPad mini mount. This setup could be reversed to the left side and to achieve the same result with opposite symmetry. This provides a ton of positioning options relative to the yolk. My optimal setup is iPad mini in landscape orientation, centered horizontally and vertically, as close as possible to the yolk itself. I then adjust tilt to get the best viewing angel. With both hands on the yolk, the screen is basically between my palms. Looks like an iPad mini sprouted yolk handles for ears! Best of luck on your setup! Z
