I have a M20C with the old Brittian auto pilot. It is not very reliable, due to what i think is a vacuum leak that we cannot find.

For radios i have Aspen Evolution 1000 Garmin 430 Garmin 530 GPS WAAS Nav/Com Apollo intercom what would be the lest expensive way to go for a 2 axis auto pilot ?

Welcome to MooneySpace.  Others with direct experience will address this, but it seems like everyone is flocking to the Garmin GFC-500 autopilot.

The GFC 500 seems to be the only currently viable new Mooney autopilot, but you are not going to like the price because it requires a G3X, G5 or GI 275 -- it won't work with an Aspen PFD. Unlike older autopilots, most of the autopilot software actually resides in the PFD which is why it requires Garmin displays. You could join the long line of others that have been waiting for the Bendix-King Aerocruze 100. It has been available any day now for years. Maybe someday it will happen.

An interesting new article came out today about Aspen Avionics partnering with Trio autopilots (currently experimental only).  They are looking to roll out an approved autopilot solution for certificates airplanes.

So the cheapest solution is to get your Brittain system working correctly (usually just a cheap hose or two to replace) and wait for the Trio or the AeroCruz to be certified.

This was a no-brainer in my M20C 20 years ago: I ripped out the Brittain and replaced it with an S-Tec 30. :)

--Up.

Those now cost about $20,000.

Talked to an FAA guy from DC at OSH and asked him why can't A/Ps be certified under NORSEE

He said that is what it was meant for

I said I was told by Duncan that they were told the FAA ACO refuses to go NORSEE on A/Ps

He gave me his email and wants information to straighten it out

YA right!  "-(
