Everyone I have seen that went for the experience had a job book, very similar to a logbook except of course documenting everything that they have done and were recommended by an IA, at least in the Civilian world.

Interestingly you can work manufacturing aircraft for years and do every job there is and it doesn’t count as manufacturing isn’t maintenance.

I had a time of it using Military experience, their reg says they need a DD214, that officially lists time of experience for a military MOS (job) they have a book that says x MOS qualifies for either the A or the P, few if any qualify you for both.

You get your DD 214 when you are discharged. My problem was I didn’t have a DD-214 because I hadn’t yet been discharged. So they finally came to an agreement that as I had some records showing my Crew Chief experience that gave me the A, the P they said I could get if i got a letter from my Maintenance Officer, I was that person. Then it was a letter from my Executive Officer, except J series TONE didn’t have an XO, so I typed up a letter, had my Lt sign it and got permission for the P.

Total was several trips to the Fort Worth FSDO, flying an AH-64 each time to the airport and borrowing a car.

The lesson is so long as you nice and polite and not argumentative, but keep coming back I think they finally get tired of you and give you the form that allows you to test.
