Hi, found an extra part on my post-flight inspection today. Upon opening the left cowl inspection door, found the metal tube shown laying on top of the battery.  Another picture shows the hole on top of the dog house from where it came from.  I'm embarrassed to say I don't know what the tube is for. On inspection of the parts book, looks like its name is a "blast tube" and there is also one on the right side.  Can someone teach me what is its purpose and is it important?  Since my #4 cylinder always has the highest temps, seems it might help to just plug the hole and keep flying :) Thanks in adavance

If you happen to have a SureFly mag on the left side, you might consider plugging the hole.  Gwen from SureFly technical support stated in an email to me that the SureFly doesn’t need any extra cooling air from the blast tube.

I don’t know if an email is sufficient documentation to make a minor alteration, so you should consult with your A&P/IA first.
