Sarasota Avionics has FB ads all over the place for upgrading a GTN-750 to a GTN-750Xi for $6,089. Deadline for deposits is this Tuesday with work to be scheduled by 3/31.

Does anyone know if SA sets up at S-n-F and gives show specials that would beat their FB promo?

I last attended back in the late eighties and I’m sure it’s a whole lot bigger than it was 35 years ago.

Not sure if they will discount that.   They are taking a chance that they can sell your 750 for a high enough price.

I did have them upgrade my 650 to an Xi last fall.  AWESOME version and very nice people at the Sarasota branch.

They even worked on my autopilot and got me out the same day.

Just wondering if historically they’ve done show specials.

Other than brighter display and faster processor, is there any difference in functionality?

Smart glide is the only functional difference I know of but the display has higher resolution (600x708 424,800 pixels vs 834x986 822,324 pixels). The faster processing makes all of the screen tasks like panning, zooming and repaints smoother and faster.

Anything on the 650? (Sorry, I don't do FB)

Yes.  The menu scrolls left and right versus up and down for the non-Xi. :D

My partners and I have discussed it and no sale. The only benefit we would derive is a brighter screen, which has never been an issue for us.

I really noticed the faster boot up and screen rewrites.

And I like that it keeps all the data internally, so you don't have to leave the card in it.  And that due to the processor and memory, they can add functionality over time.  And it will be supported longer

Not sure those features justify the $6k investment however.

That is one of the driving factors. The 650/750 have been discontinued but who knows how long Garmin will source parts for them. The Xi units came out 3 years ago and probably have a 20 year lifespan, to approximately 2040. They’ll probably be the latest and greatest for another 7 years or so until the next versions are released.

The unit I’m looking to replace is three years old with 230 flight hours since installed 12/2019, only one month before the Xi was released in January of 2020. I may just look to buy an Xi outright and sell the non-Xi myself.

SA definitely sets up at SnF. Whether they will have specials on the stuff you need is a different story.
