RoundTwo Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 Has anyone ever come across this? I understood cowl flaps went electric in 1988. This definitely a ‘94 but has manual control. Maybe it should be named Rare Bird. R2 Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 That is something I've not seen. I would rather have manual than electric...perhaps someone retrofitted the older rig? Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 I believe what you have there is the Advanced Trainer version. The M20J MSE AT Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 That could be, but I thought the AT was only produced in the '90-91 time frame? Quote

I don’t remember electric cowl flaps, I know that would have stuck as I think it odd Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 I found an AT POH on line and it clearly had push pull cowl flaps. I found an Aviation Consumer article that implied the AT was made through 94. Correct me if you have better info. 1 Quote
A64Pilot Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 Ones in Killeen Tx definitely had manual cowl flaps, and I looked my first flight in one was Sept 91 1 Quote

RoundTwo Posted December 9, 2022 Author Report Posted December 9, 2022 Another oddity is what appears to be an absence of electric trim, unless that’s it on the outside of the switch housing. Quote
A64Pilot Posted December 10, 2022 Report Posted December 10, 2022 The AT’s I flew also had speed brakes, button on the outside of the left yoke again if memory serves Quote

PT20J Posted December 10, 2022 Report Posted December 10, 2022 I would ask Jimmy Garrison - he knows more about Mooneys than Mooney. He may even have sold it once (or twice). Quote

Steve0715 Posted December 10, 2022 Report Posted December 10, 2022 Video of another ‘94 J that appears to have manual trim and manual cowl flaps. So perhaps it’s not that rare.. Quote

Outfit seems and looks professional but the J ad includes the worst example I’ve ever seen of “ complete logbooks”. Quote

RoundTwo Posted December 15, 2022 Author Report Posted December 15, 2022 It turns out that this plane IS a 1994 AT, but not quite, missing all the normal AT deletions, but also missing the one desirable item of copilot brakes. Regardless, it’s headed into prebuy and hopefully will be coming home to Georgia in a few weeks. R2 1 Quote

A64Pilot Posted December 15, 2022 Report Posted December 15, 2022 I wouldn’t want copilot brakes as I believe that’s two more master cylinders and a shuttle valve. On other aircraft I’ve worked on the shuttle valve was a real PIA in bleeding etc. It’s function I think is it’s a valve that opens up to the set of master cylinders that are being used and shuts off the other set, so you kind of have two hydraulic systems connected to one, then of course it’s another complex component. My C-140 has dual brakes but the CP side connects mechanically to the pilots pedals, so the same hydraulic system as single brakes, but I don’t think that’s how Mooney did it? Quote
