haymak3r Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 Is there some sort of block that is needed to cap off the tachometer drive port on the back of the engine when you no longer need the tach? We're adding a Garmin EIS, and the old tachometer has been removed. The oil seal needs to be replaced as it seems to slightly be leaking, but is that all that is really needed? Thanks! Quote

Igor_U Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 Are you sure you'll not get it with your engine monitor? It came with my EI CGR30-P when I installed it few years ago. Quote
Dialed In Posted October 14, 2022 Report Posted October 14, 2022 It did not come with my JPI-900 I put in this last spring. Quote
carusoam Posted October 14, 2022 Report Posted October 14, 2022 Hmmmm…. 1) A cap is not terribly necessary…. Because it is a dry device, no oil should be able to leak out… or dirt to get in… 2) EI supplies a cap… 3) JPI didn’t and sent its customer scrambling… 4) MSers supply leads to find everything…. +1 for EI… -1 for JPI… +10 for MSers…. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
haymak3r Posted November 3, 2022 Author Report Posted November 3, 2022 Thanks A quick update. I went the garmin gi-275 eis route, and it never came with a blockoff cap. I agree, this shouldn't be completely necessary, but not against having something there. I ordered one from chief aircraft. It came literally the next day as they are a few hours away from me. On first attempt, the part is too big to fit next to the vacuum pump. So I had a friend shave off a few thousandths to the same size as the cap on the tach cable. This fit great. Hopefully one less thing that "could" possibly leak. the oil seal did show signs of slightly leaking, so that was replaced as well. Thanks again for all the help! There is no better place on the internet than mooneyspace! 2 Quote
0TreeLemur Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 I bought the Spruce cap. Didn't fit. Instead, my A&P used the threaded cap from the Tach cable with a heavy piece of gasket material cut to fit inside to cover the opening. 1 Quote
haymak3r Posted November 4, 2022 Author Report Posted November 4, 2022 I had that one on order, but luckily it never came in stock. It seemed too big especially now that I saw how tight of a fit the one I got was. Quote
