PeteMc Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 So Ian messed up my plans to extend my Instrument Currency. And now it looks like we're going to extend our X-US trip into November. So anyone know a CFII that's knowledgeable with Mooneys in the KAWO area? I could get any CFII, but might as well find one that has some knowledge with a Mooney. (And yes, I could just find a pilot to act as Safety PIC. But if I'm going to get an unknown person to fly with me, I guess I'd rather go with someone with the CFII tack on their ticket.) Quote
Igor_U Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 Pete, You might want to call Richard Newman at Chinook Flight. They even have a Redbird sim! He's based at KPAE and it used to give BFRs and IPCs in owner airplanes, some in Mooneys. Not a specifically Mooney CFI but good. https://www.chinookflight.com/flighttraining/aircraft/ Quote
PeteMc Posted October 13, 2022 Author Report Posted October 13, 2022 @Igor_U Thanks for the info! I was thinking I'd do it in my plane, but the Redbird sim is an interesting thought. Granted I have X-Plane at home for thinking through procedures, but it is NOTHING like flying. Curious what the Redbird is like as far as Trim, etc., which everyone I talk to has the same issues I do of basically not working very well. (I guess if you have mega expensive controls, they work better, but not worth it to me.) Quote

It was just for fun and was impressive for a video game ; both visually and having a full motion, of course. I never done any real training in it, so can't really tell about trim and control feel. BTW, I saw big X over W28 runway couple of weekends ago. did they finish repaving? I might flyby on Sunday to have a look before meeting some friends at Spruce goose cafe. Would you care to join? 1 Quote
shawnd Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 When in November were you planning on coming to KAWO? There’s a CFI-I who could help depending on timing - he is scheduled for surgery and won’t be able able to act as PIC for a bit after that. Or I could be your safety pilot if all else fails. Quote

Yes the runway was repaved and re-opened a week ago. I flew today with sausage and bolter doing some formation practice. We had breakfast at Spruce Goose this morning. What time do you plan on being at the spruce goose on Sunday? 1 Quote

Plan was noon-ish, after I wash the plane but with smoke already rolling in (KPAE IFR, 2 sm in smoke) and tomorrow’s forecast being worse we may just cancel… Quote
