Ragsf15e Posted June 12, 2022 Report Posted June 12, 2022 Just remember install won’t be as simple as you’d like. New antenna, antenna wire and connections to autopilot and avionics. 1 Quote
Van Lanier Posted June 12, 2022 Author Report Posted June 12, 2022 Many thanks, gents. It looks like the Garmin 175 will give us the GPS nav/approach capability we need. We already have two KX-155s with G/S and a Garmin 345 transponder that communicates nicely with the iPad running Foreflight. I think we'll install the 175 for now and see how it goes. After a few months, we'll wrestle with the autopilot decision. I understand and appreciate the comments on installation. Adding anything to a Mooney is a character-building experience! 1 Quote
Andy95W Posted June 12, 2022 Report Posted June 12, 2022 You can get good money for a KX-155 with GS and a display with no burned out segments. Maybe consider selling one of yours and get the GPS/COM version? Don’t forget you’ll need a CDI that’s compatible with the GPS (a G5 works really well). 1 Quote

The push pull controls are about where the 650 is in this photo so in some C models, I don't think they will fit one on top of the other. See panel photo below. This is with a GFC500, GNS530 and GNC355. Not sure if a 750 and a 650 would fit with the controls where they are. Maybe, maybe not. Of course without the GFC500 there is more room but I am not sure if it would be enough. And definitely not enough room for a 750, 650 and audio panel. Yes, when I did the instalation I had to install the STEC 55X a bit slanted and my avionics shop basically told me that the transponder and the intercom had to be installed remotely and managed from the GTN.
