MoonFlyer68 Posted March 24, 2022 Report Posted March 24, 2022 Hello all. I would like to add the WX-500 stormscope system to my panel when I do my next big upgrade. I have been acquiring parts slowly but would like to have the Dynon autopilot approved before I pull the trigger on the upgrade. I was recently able to get a WX-500 processor but really need to test it. If any of you have the WX-500 system and would be willing to use your plane to test my processor box I would greatly appreciate it. Simply plugging it in and running the ground test would be sufficient; even better would be if you were willing to take a flight with it installed. I would be willing to offer $100 to cover the cost of your time as well as the return shipping back to me. Of course my preference would be to do this locally but I am out of town for business. Please PM me if you are able to help out and we can work out the details.
kortopates Posted March 24, 2022 Report Posted March 24, 2022 Why not simply send it out to one of many avionics repair stations that perform this service. They’ll bench check it to some spec perhaps much more significantly than what some one could do by powering it up in their aircraft. Then it will come back yellowed tagged showing it’s good for install by your avionics installer. Duncan is one such shop, but you can probably find one close by to you - or ship to Duncan.https://www.duncanaviation.aero/services/components-repairs/if you call them, they’ll give you a quote to test and certify your unit.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
MoonFlyer68 Posted March 24, 2022 Author Report Posted March 24, 2022 While I did think of this solution I have not done the leg work on it. I am under the assumption that simply putting it on the bench test with those shops would be quite costly. But I to cover my bases, I will at least see how much they are wanting to perform such a service.

Hi, here is another lead on a shop with experience on inspecting stormscopes and they can issue an 8130 form, awhile back they quoted me a very reasonable fee for testing a similar unit. good luck. kz R.C. carusoam Posted March 25, 2022 Report Posted March 25, 2022 See if @Alan Fox has insight to ground testing the WX-500 -a-

I've had Don Valentine do this exact same thing for me on a couple of WX-500s with satisfactory results. https://www.stormscopes.com/contact-us.html 1
