Baker Avionics Posted February 3, 2022 Report Posted February 3, 2022 (edited) We are trying to see what other folks are looking for to upgrade their panels. We are looking for things more "Mooney owner driven" to support everyone here. We are willing to expand our Avionics inventory and to help folks get what they are looking for. We are growing this year and are going to start offering custom panels to order, possibly, if that is what folks are looking for. Be nice, respectful and let's help out the community! Hey Greg, I have a handful of quote requests out there (though have yet to get 1 back) for some avionics work I want to get done. For me, I'm looking at a minimum of a JPI EDM 930, CiES Fuel Senders, replace my dying KX155 with a Garmin GNC225, remove all the old engine instruments and cut a new panel on the right side. I did ask for a separate quote on how much it would cost to do a 1 flat-piece panel with the above work (see render below). I've yet to get any quotes back going on 3 weeks so I'm not sure it'll be happening this year but that's the next (and likely final) step for my panel. Quote

Just one thought, your starter switch doesn't need to be in your scan but it would be nice to have your gear status lights up higher. Also with the recurring inspection required on the back of the starter switch it would be a pain to inspect it up that high behind the panel every year. I like the Electroair push button starter switch with the mag switches. I did it on the Bravo I had. 1 Quote
GMBrown Posted February 3, 2022 Report Posted February 3, 2022 I've asked several shops down here in So Cal for quotes for some work, but for some reason, they never come through. I don't need a new panel. All I want is a replacement for the dying KY 197 and dead KNS 80, maybe a Garmin 255, and if I could get traffic information, which I thought I could get with the GTX 335 / GNS 530 combo currently in my panel, that would be optimal. Some shops said the 335/530 combination should provide traffic (on the 530 traffic page) others said no. Not sure what to think now. Quote

I've been playing with the position of those lights a lot and am not sold on it where its at, I might try that. I have a Johnson Bar Mooney and to be honest the gear lights are my 2nd source of verification so I'm not super concerned with their placement. Another reason I had them on this side is my pre-landing flow starts on the left and works its way across: Gear Down, Fuel Pump On, Landing Light On, Tank on Fullest, Mixture Set, Prop Full Forward, Verify Manually Gear Down. So this works well within that flow. Quote

The GTX335 transponder is adsb-out only, it won't bring ADS-B in (TIS-B) to your panel (GNS530). A GTX345 transponder is ADS-B both out and in. The one thing that could be confusing is that your 335 is a Mode S transponder, and in some metro areas could possibly display TIS-A within a relatively small radius?? (http://aeroscanservice.com/en/Traffic_Information_Service) What you want however is TIS-B (https://www.faa.gov/nextgen/equipadsb/capabilities/ins_outs/) 1 Quote

That's the factory location for my electric C. 1 Quote

Shoot me an email and I will work up an estimate. 1 Quote
Ragsf15e Posted February 4, 2022 Report Posted February 4, 2022 Greg, thanks for looking for ways to help out. I’d love to see a basic new panel with say the GFC500 and G5s or G3Xs. With some options, something like: 1. Gfc500 with 2, 3 or 4 servos (3 options) 2. G5s x 2 3. G3x 7”, g5 backup 4. g3x 10”, g5 backup 5. G3x 10”, eis, g5 backup obviously there are lots of other factors to consider (GPS, comm, transponder) that complicate the panel and installation, but those are the different levels of upgrade that go through my mind when I consider my old AP failing permanently. We will get you in and see what's going on. The 335 will not display anything anywhere as @LANCECASPER said before. You need to get the 345 or the 375 for that. Come up, let's break bread and discuss! We are just 60 miles North of the CA border. Quote

Do me a favor and shoot me an email with a pic of the current panel and this info. Let me see what we can do and will get you various options and estimates for you to sob over.....I mean look over. Remember, AMU is not the same as USD!!!!! LOL 1 Quote

JoeM Posted February 4, 2022 Report Posted February 4, 2022 Greg; This is the year for a basic Dynon 10" on the pilot side, connected to IFD 440 for IFR. Will not include engine gauges, radio, transponder, or AP prewiring. Will need a new panel cut for left side only. Will leave vacuum system in place for Brittain AP and step. Can you recommend software to design the new panel? Quote
