Right wing, prop, engine likely nose gear damage..more? ”They planned to land at the Arcadia Municipal Airport to refuel, but when they were making their final landing, the plane lost power.”

ArtVandelay
He just overhauled the engine 400 hours ago, you kinda think that’s more than enough time to get past infant mortality.

steingar
The pilot and his spouse are OK. He said they meant to land on a nearby road but felt there was sufficient traffic to endanger folks on the ground. So into the Orange grove he went. Don't know if it was unporting, though I doubt it. If it's unporting you should be able to level the wings and go on your merry.

ArtVandelay
Will you enlighten me on what "unporting" means? If you slip the plane with low fuel levels, you can end up sucking air instead of fuel.

In an uncoordinated bank, fuel moves away from the from the fuel pick up, "unporting" the pick up from the aircraft's fuel supply. This is not typically an issue with significant amount of fuel in the tank. Edited January 4, 2022 by Shadrach

At some point the size of the tank comes into play. Whether the 6 gallon delta between the J and C tanks makes a difference in when the tanks can be, I don't know.
