mooney2201 Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 Has anyone ever performed engine installation buy removing engine mount first...and then bolting the mount to the engine, which gives you plenty of room...than bolting engine mount from the bottom of the firewall And swinging it into place If so how hard was this installation Quote

Guest Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 It’s the way I’ve always done it for all four cylinder Mooneys. Many Mooneys have damaged foot wells from trying to remove and install the lower Lord mount and bolts. Clarence Quote
Browncbr1 Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 (edited) That’s how I’ll be doing it when my engine shows up. bolt the lower mounts on, then swing engine up and drive top bolts through. Edited November 19, 2021 by Browncbr1 Quote

I have heard that sometimes two people are needed to spring the mount a bit to get the top bolts in. I've heard of grinding the heads off the old bolts and tapering the tips to get the mount on, then tapping the new bolts through.. I am thinking about also possibly using a ratchet strap to spring the mount enough to slide the bolts in easily. you're right.. don't want to damage threads. Quote
Guest Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 A brass drift and a small ball peen hammer should be the only tools required to install the bolts. More than that there is something wrong. Clarence Quote
