bmcconnaha Posted July 3, 2021 Report Posted July 3, 2021 hello all, thinking of going to the MAPA clinic in Kansas. are these worthwhile? id have to travel a considerable distance, plus the cost of the clinic, so i was looking to hear others experience of these? anyone else going? Quote
hammdo Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 I did the one in Ft. Worth and realized having Mooney Specific training from an experienced Mooney CFI really helps. I had 4 hrs of flying with Jerry Johnson and really learned more about my Mooney. You get out of it what you put into it. I'm glad I took it. The ground school is worthwhile (on Friday) and covers many things. ATC came in and gave us guidance how to proceed. Well planned... Ck with your insurance on adding MSF - I did that and insurance charged me $250 - 'interim' change fee. -Don Quote

You’d think they would think the specific training would reduce their risk, and find a way out of charging the 250 dollars extra. Thanks for the info on the clinic 1 Quote
carusoam Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 The MAPA training has traditionally been the best weekend course available to have one on one training in your plane… meet a bunch of other Mooniacs… many are MSers… Fine tune your level of experience or start something new… one cool thing about the training is to see what kind of special approaches can be found…. Like a no gyro radar approach(?) Best regards, -a- 1 1 Quote
jlunseth Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 I have been to five, well, four and a half maybe. The first one was in Niagara and we had an event on the trip there that delayed arrival, so they let me come to one in Peoria to make up the missed work. Then I went to one in Boulder with a mountain flying course, and one in Olathe where we got a half day ground school at Garmin and a tour of the factory, and just was at the Santa Fe PPP this spring. The ground school is really excellent and these are all very well versed Mooney pilots so the ground school is model specific throughout. From the student’s perspective, they try to pair you with instructors who know or actually own you particular model, so the airwork is very knowledgeable and just excellent. I try to go every couple of years, it may cost more, but it is far more educational than doing a BFR with an instructor just out of college. Don’t get me wrong, those are very good instructors, but you wind up teaching them as much as they teach you. 2 Quote

hypertech Posted July 7, 2021 Report Posted July 7, 2021 I did one a couple years ago. It was a very good experience. I'm going again this year in September. Quote
hubcap Posted August 10, 2021 Report Posted August 10, 2021 I am signed up for the MAPA event in Wichita this year. I am really looking forward to it. This will be my first time but I believe it will be a great experience. I am looking forward to the training but also really looking forward to meeting more Mooney folks as well. 1 Quote
