Jocbay Posted July 2, 2021 Report Posted July 2, 2021 As I will be VFR for the next couple of years; I was hoping to fly with this panel for a year and then install everything at once; however, with instruments dying faster than Custer's 7th, I must now do this upgrade in two parts. Here's what doesn't work: AI, Narco 1200, Radar Altimeter, Century 1 AP, GS on top NavCom, Clock, and Timer and PC. Here's what I don't trust: Garmin 250xl GPS (reacquires constantly), 250xl comm (last control tower said I was broken) DME, and oil temp gauge. Soo, Part one: JPI 900 (with Cies fuel senders) mounted vertically below the gear switch. AV 30 as my AI (can it also act as primary for my turn and bank?) GTR 225 replaces the Narco 1200 and intercom. ForeFlight and Sentry ADSB in with a mini Ipad mounted on the yoke. Part two: GNX 375 (maybe GTN 650xi) GI 275 GFC 500 PMA audio panel Part one will get me legal and safe without cutting up the panel and part two will get me what I want. I'll redo the panel at that time. So I have several questions. Does this plan sound reasonable? Any alternatives I should consider? Should I look into getting the PC fixed or just hand fly until part deux, (hopefully next summer). And lastly, as Oshkosh is upon us, where should I look for some avionics deals. Thanks for reading and any input you may have. Happy Fourth! jb Quote
ArtVandelay Posted July 2, 2021 Report Posted July 2, 2021 I would break it into radio stack work and pilot panel work. That way the tear down work for both sides are limited.I’d move the transponder to the right stack because you rarely need to interact with it, trying to interface with something in the right stack during IMC is not ideal. You want your GPS in the left radio stack. MIm20c Posted July 2, 2021 Report Posted July 2, 2021 I’d probably go with a G5 vs AV30 if you’re planning on a Garmin AP down the road. Quote
Warren Posted July 3, 2021 Report Posted July 3, 2021 I agree - a G5 would maintain compatibility for future GFC500 upgrade. Might consider a GNC 255A upgrade over the GTR 225 if you want to start checking boxes for a full future IFR package. Quote
