Ragsf15e Posted May 6, 2021 Report Posted May 6, 2021 (edited) Hey guys, in the past I always heard that the JPI 930 had to be sent in to be upgraded. However I’ve been talking to their customer support, and they emailed me an update package and procedures to update it myself through the USB port. Their customer support is not clear on exactly what this update does, so I’m hesitant. But it appears you can update your 930 at home by yourself. There are no release notes for the newest software version I received, their customer support just told me it fixed minor bugs. None of this really addressed my original question which was about fluctuating oil pressure right after a firmware update, and I’m still a bit skeptical on their actual customer “support”. However if we could update our JPI‘s from an email and software update ourselves and keep them in the airplane that would be a terrific development. Has anyone actually tried this or done it successfully? Edited May 6, 2021 by Ragsf15e Quote
MIm20c Posted May 6, 2021 Report Posted May 6, 2021 If you want to change any of the limits etc on a primary unit they normally want you to send it in. However, that’s not even needed. They can send the info to totally change the unit to a different aircraft…they just don’t want that data available/copied by the end user. Quote

I guess I just thought the 930 always had to be removed and sent in for any kind of software upgrade. I’ve sent mine in before for this. Apparently it doesn’t?! Usually people talk about sending it in as one of the drawbacks, but maybe JPI’s hearing that? Quote
LANCECASPER Posted May 7, 2021 Report Posted May 7, 2021 In December 2015 Brian Kendrick did the 310hp STC on an Ovation I had. JPI e-mailed him the new file to configure to 2700 RPM on the tach for the EDM930. I think they will work with an IA or avionics shop, not so much individuals. Quote
carusoam Posted May 7, 2021 Report Posted May 7, 2021 Much has changed with newer JPIs... To change to Ceis floats used to require sending back for the update... See if @Jeev knows the software update details for the JPI 900/930... Best regards, -a- Quote

This one they sent directly to my personal email. Of course it wasn’t for new limits like 2700 rpm, but just “minor bug fixes”. Quote

For the relatively small amount they charged for updates and with all of the hassle of shipping it there and shipping it back I don’t think they were making money on that. 1 Quote
Marauder Posted May 10, 2021 Report Posted May 10, 2021 This is good news. Sending the unit in for software fixes and being down for 2 weeks wasn’t cutting it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 1 Quote
