Hey guys, I have off this Friday and was thinking about going somewhere with the wife and kid for lunch.  I am based out of Enid, OK and am looking for somewhere good to go within say 150 NM.  Any ideas????

I don't know what model you are flying, but if you aren't afraid of a 2600' grass strip, Beaumont Kansas is a great experience.  The runway is just east of town.  At the south end of the runway you taxi into the main part of town on a county road and park on the grass below the wooden water tower then walk across the street to the Beaumont Hotel.  Don't forget to stop at the stop sign.

Before you leave Vance you need to try Beaumont at least once.  The first time I flew in was when I was stationed at McConnell.  I took one of our doctors with me and he didn't stop talking about it for six months.  Of course taxiing behind the school bus just added to the experience.  At that time they had a really good Italian Restaurant.  Over the decades the hotel/restaurant have changed hands numerous times.  However, the runway, taxi route and parking have remained the same.

aerobat95 has George P's old M20F.  Ponca City has a great Mexican restaurant, and it is better food than the Hutch steakhouse IMO...  There is decent BBQ on the field at K81 in Paola, KS too.  If you have several hours to kill, you might consider Hutchinson and take a side trip to the KS Cosmosphere, which is an outstanding space museum second only to the NASM in DC in terms of artifacts and exhibits.  They also have an SR-71 inside the building that you can touch and examine closely.

Well we ended up flying to Wichita, KS to eat and go shopping.  I had the greatest radio call from Wichita Approach.  I was about to call to cancel flight following and start my decent into Augusta and they come back and give me a traffic call.  They say Mooney 5365G you have a Cessna, 12 O'Clock, 2 miles and you have 70 knots of overtake.  :-)
