MisfitSELF Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 Anyone have recommendations for shops on the west coast for installing a Surefly ignition system? I own a M20J with a IO-360A3B6 with (ugh!) Slick Mags. I'm sitting at about 350 hours on the mags and when I hit 200, I'd like get rid of at least one of those pieces of crap. Thanks. Bruce
rotorman Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 Advanced Aircraft in Troutdale OR did mine during an engine swap. Greg will return calls or email if you have questions.
kmyfm20s Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 I am sure you can find someone closer to you but Advanced Aircraft at KMYF(San Diego) has installed several SureFly’s and has fixed a couple of other shops installation that I’m aware of.
adverseyaw Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 I think Mark Rouch at Top Gun Aviation in Stockton has done them, as well. They don't seem like rocket science to install (the instructions are pretty straightforward) but they do need to be programmed/configured for the airplane, and you need to run a line to the battery. Having a mechanic familiar with both Mooneys and Sureflys seems like a smart move.
flyingchump Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 I'm on the east coast and just had a shop put a surefly on my E and they billed me 17 hours of labor!!! If I had know it was going to take that much I might have just stuck with regular mags. My advice, make sure whoever you pick has a lot of surefly specific experience. Also, call surefly if you have any problems. Their tech guys are helpful.
