All my A&P IA buddies love it and mine is on loan most of the year. https://www.amazon.com/Vividia-Ablescope-VA-400-Borescope-Articulating/dp/B00GY7C9ZW Best Regards, Jon Edited December 3, 2020 by jonhop 2 Quote

Clarence You probably would if you shrunk the pics like the above. When they're larger they're not as sharp. I have the same borescope and noticed this before. 2 Quote

tmo Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 The camera in the VA400 scope has a native resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, making the image any larger involves transforming it, which costs quality. How much quality depends on the software and algorithm used, but you probably don't want to do it. Think of how DVDs got upscaled to 4k. 2 Quote

shawnd Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 Found this other borescope online similar to the Vividia's articulating end that can turn 180 degrees but with 1080p resolution (instead of 640x480). If anyone can figure out where to buy one from, that would be great! Datasheet: http://www.misumi.com.tw/pdf/2019/80_VD700_311_1W_77.pdf Youtube video: Quote
shawnd Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 Turns out Vividia VA-450 is out there with 1280x720 pixel resolution. A little pricey but probably worth it. URL http://www.vividia-tech.com/va-450-lcdwifi.html and comes with a video of cylinder inspection 2 Quote
shawnd Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 Curious if @M20Doc has tried this? Quote

PT20J Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 Before I bought one, I'd like to see how it works on an operational cylinder. At trade shows, they bring a dry jug. Same with this video. And, even with the cheaper 640 x 480 camera, the view looks great. But I notice that when I use it on my engine with cylinders that have an oil film and are highly reflective, the lighting is a problem and the light backscatter seems to cause focusing problems and glare issues. EricJ Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 $900 bucks on Amazin.https://www.amazon.com/Articulating-Borescope-Videoscope-Inspection-Side-View/dp/B0885RH9PV The high-res, super-duper ones with built-in screen and full articulation have been around for a while, but have been in the $1500 region. It's nice to see the prices coming a bit more within reach. Quote
shawnd Posted February 21, 2021 Report Posted February 21, 2021 @PT20J I ordered Vividia ME-610X after some researching. The current sale price is ~$100 more than the VA-450 but the 360 degree articulation, joystick control, and lastly the 5mm focal range had me convinced. The video below compares the ME-600 to the 980 (I believe same camera as the 450) and shows samples from "wet" engine conditions. Ability to focus up close is a must-have in the cramped cylinders (and blurry valve pics from history). Oasis Scientific improved the image clarification in the 610X over the ME610. Let me know if you are interested in trying it and we can coordinate once I receive it. My plane is in the shop for annual so will be eager to try it out the new toy. 2 Quote
