In case anyone is interested or planning to do an interior refurb in the future, Bob Fields Aerocessories is offering a 20% discount on all Inflatable Door Seals for National Aviation Day and extended the offer through the end of August.

Hi there.  The post K models are exactly the same. I have an email from Mooney confirming this.  However, the STC only goes to K. They are working to extend this to newer models, but the FAA isn't fast.  I would recommend speaking with your installer and see if the could do a 337 to allow this to be installed on newer Mooney models.

I just redid my door seals (main and baggage) as the old ones were flat as a pancake. The new seals seal very well using the Brown T-9088 specified by Mooney if you position them correctly. I can't see how inflatable ones would be worth the bother.

Skip it depends how screwed up your frame/door is, according to DM a handful of long bodies has some frame messed up from jigs or something my 2005 was one, I’ve been through about 5-6 different seals including the one you mentioned, even with the air seal I still place some foam strips placed to make it quiet.

It also depends on who is doing the installations. Doors take some real craftsmanship. Reworking/shimming/rebuilding of door hinges, latches and striker plates all sometimes need to happen to properly rig these doors. Some people have the ability to do this and others don't  People who think it is simply a peel and stick solution is wrong. For what it is worth, I worked at Cessna in Wichita, KS where the Citations are built. Even with all of the high tolerance tooling and shop aids, they still had "challenges" with first time quality. All of them are fitted to this day.

A 337 is called a "Major Repair and Alteration Form". It depends on whether your IA considers this a major alteration. Most installers would probably consider installing the electric version a major alteration, but the basic version which is all on the door - maybe not so major. My IA would probably just list it on the annual inspection logbook entry as "replaced torn door seal".

If the installer does fill out a 337 they would then have to reference the STC. If they referenced the STC and the airplane model wasn't listed on the STC, then they'd probably need a FSDO sign-off.

All the more reason for an ambitious hangar elf to install the basic version (and an understanding IA to include it on the next annual logbook entry as "replaced torn door seal" )

All of the Bob Fields seals are covered under an STC (both manual and electric). And with that, requires a 337 and IA signature.

I agree with you regarding models not listed on the STC would require more paperwork.
