Aspen2013 Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 Anyone know where you get the filter from and the part number? I am searching aircraft spruce and no luck. Maybe it is called something else. The rubber tubing is made by Gates and part number is 4RLA and is 1/4". Can I just use fuel injector fuel line which seems to be to be equivalent? Quote
Guest Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 (edited) The filter and the tiny drain fitting on the filter are from Continental and are breathtakingly expensive, but you might want to buy the filter from Parker Ballston filters, part number 3/8833-11-BX. It’s from their gas filtration line of filters. Clarence Edited July 20, 2020 by M20Doc Quote
Aspen2013 Posted July 20, 2020 Author Report Posted July 20, 2020 Thanks, that is great info and excellent diagram. You think that cap comes off the end of the canister easily? I tried to turn it, pry it and it isn't budging. Don't want to break it. Quote
kortopates Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 Because of the breathtaking expensive of the TCM filter, I recommend RAMs filter which is a PMA'd replacement for the TCM and much more affordable. They use to display it on their website with its price but I can no longer find it. I assume its available if you give them a call. I believe the part no is 1396-2 called the "Opt B" . I think it was about .2 AMU. Quote
Guest Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 Also available from Tornado Alley Turbo http://www.tatparts.com/product/04-6700015.html Quote
carusoam Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 That is a pretty ugly piece of hose... once those clamps get done with it... Is there a proper procedure to tighten the hose clamps to avoid that? Something I won’t need to know about until I swap the O for a TN... Best regards, -a- Quote
cliffy Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 Ya think maybe they all are a little overtight? 1 Quote
Aspen2013 Posted July 21, 2020 Author Report Posted July 21, 2020 Yeah, it takes a caring mechanic. At first 500 hr it was loosened and then when re-installed the only thing to do is tighten it more. Saves $10 of hose. I am replacing it. The TAT website has a pretty cool deal. Balston sales is checking on it as well. I didn't have a part number for them just pictures. I am wondering what the recommendation is for changing this filter? I blow into it and the flow is good. I think it just traps water vapor. So the third port out of that filter assembly is the drain. All the catalog pictures and descriptions don't show the drain plug. Otherwise you have a hole for all the pressure to escape and so much for pressurized mags. That plug does not come out. It may be a one time push and snap in. I will call TAT. I will check with RAM as well. Quote

Tornado Alley Best Price ($116.09). Balston wants $452.00! It appears that they do not come with drain plug anymore. I am going to blow air in mine and see if i can feel air coming out the port. Jetrn Posted August 3, 2020 Report Posted August 3, 2020 (edited) My plane is in for annual at laser. Quote $459 for filter assembly. Thanks to this post it saved me $350, just ordered the filter assembly from tornado alley. Edited August 3, 2020 by Jetrn Quote
Aspen2013 Posted August 24, 2020 Author Report Posted August 24, 2020 (edited) Update on the filter assembly. Talked to continental motors and the drain reducer is required to be inserted in the drain port. Without it there will be no pressure built up in the magnetos. These can be purchased from Air Power at 800 938-7278 for $52.95 plus shipping. Mine was $17.00 to ship in a huge box from Texas to New Mexico. Lol. It comes with an 8130!! It is barbed and can only be inserted and never removed. This thing just removes water vapor. I am sure that these can last more than 12 years. I compared the flow through the old one and the new one and it wasn’t much different. There you have it. IMG_8817.MOV Edited August 24, 2020 by Aspen2013 Add info 1 Quote
LANCECASPER Posted December 8, 2021 Report Posted December 8, 2021 To any TSIO Continental owners, I bought three of these, new in the box with the drain reducer attached. I'm changing mine and putting one on the shelf. I'll sell the other one for $155 shipped. PM me Otherwise AirPowerInc.com has the best price. This lists for almost $600. Quote
