I noticed the mechanical backup AI in this plane leaned a couple times during a 2 hour leg in straight and level flight.  It leaned very slowly over several minutes, then went back to normal just as slowly.  Not just the inner horizon card leaned, but the outer ring card leaned with it?  I’ve never seen that before.

I assume this is on its way out?  Right?

Yup.  Check the vacuum level and the plumbing.  If that’s ok Send for OH to aircraft quality instruments. Wichita ks.  My AI has 600+ hours on it and still doing good.

A very safe assumption and if you fly it in IMC I would recommend that you replace it or overhaul it.  The last one I had done they sent me a loaner to use while they had it in the shop.

I expect that all the good instrument shops will provide loaners.  I found an excellent shop in the Houston area that I sent mine to.  If you’re interested I will dig out their address when I get home from Galveston.
