Fuel Selector Valve

Hey Im working on my 76 M20J restoration and the fuel selector valve is in the notorious position under the pilots legs, unsafe in my opinion.  Anyways Im curious if anyone has relocated their selector valve to the center console between the seats like on the 77 and newer models. It doesn't look there is any room with the aileron control cable there.
