We are supposed to carry a pilot's guide (PG) for all the fancy electronics that we've installed in our a/c.   We have installed the JPI EDM-900, but the PG text is laid out in a block 4" W x 5.5" H, and printed on the upper left-hand quadrant of the page, single sided, for all pages, making it impossible to print double sided.   I spent a little time searching the interwebs for a version of the document that is laid out for two-sided printing- no joy.   Anybody have such a thing?  Thanks.

For our equipment documents I started with PDF files.  I then played with the print settings. I don't remember exactly what I did, but here's what might work for you.

1.  From the menu select Print so to get the pop up print dialog.  Don't hit the print icon because that will print the entire document.

2.  In the Pages To Print section I selected Print (so I could specify the page numbers).

3. 1,2,4,3

4.  In Paper Size and Handling I selected the Booklet option.

5.  For Booklet Subset I selected Both Sides.

6.  For Binding I selected Left.

7.  For Orientation I selected Portrait.

8.  Finally I selected Print to actually print the page.

Doing that prints page 1 and 3 on the front side of the paper and 2 and 4 on the back side with 4 printed behind 3 and 2 behind 1.  Repeat for each set of 4 pages.  5,6,8,7 then  9,10,12,11 and so on.

Use a sheet cutter to cut them down to size, place them in the proper order, and bind them with a spiral binder.

Have fun.

It’s your printer options that need to be changed not the PDF. Like mentioned above, change your settings, every printer is slightly different, but the PDF was created so that it would fit the now standard AFM binders

I can send you a PFD version. Load that onto your iPad, and sync to your phone. Now you have two copies in the cockpit. Leave the heavy paper manuals on the shelf at home.

So, I gather that paper copies are not required?    Is that true?

That is my understanding. I even have the POH in pdf format on my iPad. I have a folder in ForeFlight for all required manuals, guides, POH, etc. It's also much easier to find stuff when I need to look something up.

I don't carry any paper guides or manuals or POH in the cockpit.

When paper charts went out the window...

There are some things that need to be added to the POH... probably called the POH supplement.... so store a piece of paper in there..

Because that makes sense...

For ordinary use... iPad and iPhone copies are really useable...

When storing copies of paper docs on the iPad... see if you can do it in a searchable way...

PP thoughts only, not a CFI...

Thanks to everyone.

I put the pdf on iPad.  Problem solved.

Good to know that FAA doesn't require hard copies of all relevant Pilot's guides be in the airplane.  I always assumed that this was the case.  Comes from my pre-iPad era training.

Keeping hard copies at home for serious read and using Ipad/phone for quick ref does help with extra 30lbs W&B or 30min endurance and may save some fuel in the long run ;) altough, at those numbers I am probably better off with a gym user guide
