ArtVandelay Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 The panel mount compass is cool. What model is that? I’d love to eventually ditch my error prone OEM OAT. It’s an Airpath C2300 I think (the version with internal lighting). The JPI 900 has OAT so you can ditch that as well.Tom Quote
J0nathan225 Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 @ArtVandelay bought it that way shows all the same stuff doesn't it? Quote
gsxrpilot Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 Be careful, it's easy to get carried away... although I don't know anyone who after it's all done, wishes they'd not spent the money and upgraded their panel. I went from this... To this... Quote
Airways Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 @gsxrpilot I see you still have the dual ammeter in your panel. Can’t this be replaced by the edm900 as well ? Quote
gsxrpilot Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 Just now, Airways said: @gsxrpilot I see you still have the dual ammeter in your panel. Derek Posted September 27, 2019 Author Report Posted September 27, 2019 Thanks for all this information everyone. Too many choices! I'm definitely not fluent in all the manufacturer model numbers yet. It's like alphabet soup. I have to Google every darn one of them. Quote

Let’s skip the inevitable analog vs digital, steam vs glass, discussions. It comes down to what you want and can you afford it.Buying an airplane is because you want it, not because you need it. Ditto for the panel.Tom 2 Quote
MIm20c Posted September 27, 2019 Report Posted September 27, 2019 I know my thought process has completely changed since the g3x reach has expanded. A single 175, 355, or 375 gps along with two coms and a nav unit is all that I would install. That with a g3x and EIS and you’re set. hardware cost...g3x w/EIS and gps 175 is the same cost as a 750. Browncbr1 Posted September 28, 2019 Report Posted September 28, 2019 Derek, many folks on here have been happy with primary certified EDMs like the 930, etc. they are great units, but consider an 830 instead. It’s cheaper for one, but the main reason I did the 830 is to have redundancy. I have experienced 3 jpi failures. 1 was loss of MaP on the jpi. I was easily able to diagnose the issue inflight as it did not agree with the OEM gauge. 1 was unstable/intermittent data and ultimately a blank screen. The 3rd failure I experienced was last week in a baron with the 960 primary system. Left side engine data completely went blank after a short period of erroneous data. I had no other instruments aboard that could verify FF/p, oil pressure, temps or anything. Like everything else, these systems do fail sometimes after hours of vibration. It’s nice to retain backup gauges instead of being AOG 1 Quote

MIm20c Posted September 28, 2019 Report Posted September 28, 2019 I also feel the mid 90’s factory gauges are pretty nice (looks, accuracy, durability). I thought the insight EM’s were supposed to be quality units. Is there a plug and play upgrade to the g2 or whatever? Quote
