Anyone have a favorite video (or other online training resource) for the Garmin G5?

I've read the Garmin guides and watched a handful of intro/review videos on YouTube, but haven't found anything really great.

I wish Garmin had a simulator for the G5 like they have for their nav boxes.

What are you trying to learn? It only does a couple of things and there's only one button to push/turn. It took me all of about 5 minutes to learn all the possible functions.

There are a few tricks you can come up with if you think about them.  For example:

Can you navigate using just the information on the ADI? (yes)  All the info is there.  Course, deviation, track, and heading.

As I mentioned in another thread, if you are flying an approach with a glidepath, once you are on glidepath and at your desired speed, you should be able to use the velocity trend vector to set your power.

Seriously?

This doesn't seem like a trivial exercise.  The pilot's guide helps, but covers a lot of territory with only a very small number of screenshots.  I'm particularly interested in seeing AP controls and indications, but I'd also be interested in videos covering various types of instrument approaches.

(This is for a 2xG5 + GFC500 setup.)

To be fair, your topic was training for the G5, not the GFC500.  None of the autopilot controls are on the G5, they are all on the GMC507.  However, the annuciations are displayed along the top of the G5 ADI.  Green is active, white is armed.  And like they taught me in 757 training, it doesn't matter what button you think you pushed, the only thing that matters is what the annunciator says.  So when you push a button, if the annunciator doesn't say what you wanted, the autopilot isn't going to do what you expected.

With all that said, I could see how a few videos showing the progression of button pushing and annunciations could be helpful.

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that I'm looking for GFC500 videos. I'm specifically looking for G5 videos. I mentioned the GFC500 only for context - but your comment is a bit discouraging. My (apparently mistaken?) understanding from the pilot's guide was that you could do things like set heading, enter altitude preselects, constant-airspeed climb values, etc.

Yeah, I think you're looking for GFC500 training, but fair enough.

Understood. The GMC507 is a pretty simple interface, and its operation seems straightforward. I'm really just looking for recommendations on G5 training resources - but I'd be particularly interested in videos that show G5 AP interaction.

Basically - the plane was supposed to be out of the shop last week, but it's been delayed by at least a week, and I'm trying to do some couch flying :)

You can set headings and altitude preselects on the dual G5s.  You will need the GFC500 for climb descent.

The heading on the HSI is the default, so you just spin the knob.  On the ADI, the altimeter setting is default.  To set the altitude you push in the knob, select altitude and dial it in.

FWIW, I have dual G5s and really like them.

I don't see it as an altitude preselect as it doesn't command anything. It's more of an altitude bug. I use it all the time, but just as a bug to remind me of pattern altitude, TOD, or the like.

That is true, until the GFC is connected.

Hmmmm.....

There is a guy for that...

A guy that knows big G customer wants and needs.

A guy that knows G5 answers and attributes.

Want to find that guy? (Trek Lawlor :))

He is usually found in the slower section of MS... a section called BT.

+1 on learning all you can while your flying is curtailed!

Best regards,
