I know Brian's 231 is equipped with long range tanks as well as CiES digital senders and an EDM-930. All this means he knows to probably .5 gallon. exactly how much fuel he has and where it is. I'm sure he'll land with more than an hour reserve. N4361H is the one I was watching. I am sure he has it pegged perfectly Quote

xcrmckenna Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 They are young. Need I saw more? Don’t forget, the no kids thing.... My baby girl put the brakes on a LOT of things. But I guess she is worth it in the long run...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 2 Quote

Steve W Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 I'm a fan of planned 3 hour legs... Then when I have to dodge weather or whatever I'm still well within my tolerance. That gets me half way to Denver, half way to San Diego, or almost half way across Texas. 2 Quote

Also at this time, Brian Lloyd (N916BL) is in the air in the middle of an almost 9 hour, 1450 mile flight in an M20K 231. Are there any other certificated piston singles that have this kind of range? This is a great example of the capabilities of a normally aspirated M20J flying at 8000 ft. and a turbo M20K flying at 18,000 ft. They truly are amazing airplanes. Yes! There is a fellow in Victoria BC who files Toronto direct in a Columbia on standard fuel. Clarence Quote

N201MKTurbo Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 Wow, you get the weather flying merit badge for that one! Nice job! Your speed trace on Flight Aware shows it was not a boring ride.... Quote
1964-M20E Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 Looks looks like 201er has recently landed. Quote
gsxrpilot Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 Nice job @201er. I'm guessing you took off with a VFR flight plan and filed IFR somewhere over MD? Anyway, very cool following along today on FlightAware. Quote

Clarence So now you've got me curious as to how that computes. Even at 50 knots on the tail, LOP at 17gph, and use all 102 useable gallons... I can only get to 1200 miles... Victoria to Toronto is 1825 nautical? Quote

But we don’t fly Mooneys to fly slow. Quote
201er Posted September 27, 2018 Author Report Posted September 27, 2018 What, no welcome party!! No balloons??? Not even someone to tell use where to go? Can someone with contact info for someone who knows what’s going on help me out? Don’t know where they’re putting me up for the night. 1 Quote

I agree, but Clarence is talking about a Columbia going from Victoria, BC (CYYZ) to Toronto (CYYJ), 1825 nm, non-stop with standard tanks. So if he runs deep LOP, at book speed, at max altitude, has 50 knots on the tail, and burns all 102 gal of useable fuel... I still can't seem to get there. I'm not disputing it, I'm just very curious as to how it can happen. I know both Brian who flew Texas to California today in 9 hours and Mike who just flew to Florida from New Jersey in 7 hours, have extended tanks. So as someone who likes to do this type of thing, I'm curious. Quote

I agree it must been a helluva tail wind, but have no reason to call him a liar either. 1 Quote
Piloto Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 Mooneys can go a long way with long range tanks and pilot relief tube. Here is a new Ovation I took to Exeter UK. José 2 Quote

My understanding was that he would climb to altitude, ride the winds with the engine rpm back to around 1500-1600. The Victoria- Toronto leg was said to be 10+/- hours. He also was said to have done Hay River NWT to Toronto. I looked for the registration on the Transport Canada site but can’t find it anymore. Clarence Quote
