Jeff_S Posted August 12, 2018 Report Posted August 12, 2018 For anyone who flies with a G1000, have you ever noticed an anomaly on the main moving map if NEXRAD data is missing. Flying the southwest route over El Paso into Arizona, I saw some big areas where it looked NEXRAD data was missing. But this seemed to take out the underlying topo of the base map. A picture is below. If I deselected NEXRAD from showing on the map, then the topo data reappeared. But if there was no NEXRAD then it blanked out the whole map for that section. Very weird. Anybody else ever see this? 1 Quote

Anybody else ever see this? It's not just the G1000. It happens on all displays where there is no nexrad coverage. If you want to see the underlining map you need to disable nexrad. 1 Quote
exM20K Posted August 12, 2018 Report Posted August 12, 2018 Happens to me, and I thought it was a too small card. Glad you mentioned the cause. Quote
Bryan Posted August 12, 2018 Report Posted August 12, 2018 Agree. Had this happen to me on the GTN 750 with the GTX 345 feeding it recently; it is not just related to the G1000. Quote
Jeff_S Posted August 13, 2018 Author Report Posted August 13, 2018 Very interesting. Thanks Don. I had never seen it to such an extent because this is my first time flying so far out West where there are more coverage gaps. But I looked at a map of NEXRAD coverage and I see that the blank spots I was seeing yesterday correspond to gaps on that map. In fact, I see there is a small one in North Georgia/North Carolina mountains that I do fly over a lot. I remember having seen this before but it was such a small area I figured it was a momentary glitch. Learn something new... Quote
carusoam Posted August 13, 2018 Report Posted August 13, 2018 @TrekLawler got your ears on? An invitation for G’s MS guy... Best regards, -a- Quote
buddy Posted August 13, 2018 Report Posted August 13, 2018 Jeff, I’ve also seen the same thing on my g1000 in northern Florida and down in the Bahamas near Nassau. I’m not to sure the coverage areas or blank spots are located in the same areas all the time. Quote
