The face plate is leaking on my airspeed indicator. Mid-Continent will not service it. M20D/C

If you have one please let me know.

Thanks

Ron

I have calls into a couple. Also Faeth Aircraft parts are near here in Sacramento. All I want is a face plate gasket. Mid-Continent said the hands are 'radio active' or Hot.

Ron,

Do you have the original clock on the yoke as well...? It may have glow in the dark hands too.

The glow in the dark hands have gone out of use in the the 70s..?

there may be a few different hands and faces of instruments that got that treatment...

California Probably has written laws outlawing such things...

Not incredibly hazardous... but not needed either... since the invention of the LED...

May require sending to a shop outside of CA...

Best regards,

looks to me like the hands have been repainted in the past. The radium paint usually looks thicker and a bit crumbly.

When I was a kid we always used old watch hands to build our cloud chambers. Where are kids supposed to get their radioactive material these days?

You could always just ask the instrument shop for a gasket and lay it on top of glare shield. It may magically install itself one night when nobody is looking....

The second  one should work as it has the same markings. Hopefully the face plate is just dirty. Thank you

Thank you for the reply I called Pacific Southwest Instruments and the are looking up the face plate gasket. I hope someone will sneak in my hangar and replace the gasket

Hello Ron,

Bare with me on this message. I'm needing some help.

I recently started a post regarding the new MOSAIC rules and was curious if our M20's clean stall speed was slow enough to qualify (at or less than 59 KCAS). I own a 1964 D/C as well (serial #217.) I noticed that the photo of your airspeed indicator in a prior post shows a lower VSo and VS1 stall speed than my airspeed indicator. Your speeds at least on the airspeed indicator would show a clean stall speed (VS1) around 62 MPH. That converts to 54 kts. Correcting for calibrated must still put you at or under 59 KCAS.

My airspeed indicator shows the bottom of the green arc at 70 MPH but my owners manual says the clean stall speed is 67 mph IAS. Clearly both of your stall speeds are showing lower than mine and we have the same aircraft basically. I'm curious what your manual lists as your clean stall speed and if it says indicated or calibrated. Maybe I have the wrong manual and/or someone replaced my original airspeed indicator. It looks like tape might have been added to the bottom of my green arc to make my clean stall speed higher which matches my manual that says VS1 is 70 mph calibrated. I'll try to attach a pic of my airspeed indicator. If your manual lists the lower speeds maybe you coud snap a pic of the front cover and I could try to find one. This has been very frustrating. Hope you're doing well.

Joe
