81X Posted May 9, 2018 Report Posted May 9, 2018 Hi Team, after some avionics work and wiring cleanup, my factory ammeter is now always showing about +15 Amps, whether the master or engine are on or not. Voltage on my 830 shows just over 12V when the engine is off and right about 14 when running above idle. Also, the low volts annunciation works fine for what it's worth. Before I practice some contortion skills in the 231 to trace and test the wires, has anyone ever seen this condition? Is the instrument toast or could it be something with the shunt and wiring? Also, is it accurate that the ammeter is not required equipment? Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 9, 2018 Report Posted May 9, 2018 If it turns out to be the gauge I have one from my J (+/- 60 amps), don’t know if it’s the same as a K. Quote
carusoam Posted May 9, 2018 Report Posted May 9, 2018 Some Mooney gauges fail to max reading.... this could be one? Find the shunt. There are two wires going to The amp gauge. Both wires have fuses in them... Look to see which wire got grounded... Your avionics guru should be able to put things back... PP guesses only. Not a mechanic. Best regards, -a- Quote
Piloto Posted May 14, 2018 Report Posted May 14, 2018 The factory AMP meter is like a compass. Try relocating brackets, bolts and nuts next to the meter. José Quote
bgpilot1 Posted October 31, 2019 Report Posted October 31, 2019 The amp meter in my 1985 M20K has been pegged to the right beyond the +70 marking. It was made by Rochester Gauge Inc of Dallas Tx. Part # 5-90330. Just had it removed and started calling around to see who could fix the problem. Didn't have much luck but a local company, Avionics Specialists in Memphis TN was able to diagnose and fix the issue. The magnet on the back had become loose and moved just a tiny bit off center. Took about 45 minutes of troubleshooting and now it is back to normal. 1 Quote

I was fortunate to get the last stock item from LASAR before the price skyrocketed to something like $1400. Quote
