N231SM Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 Hello all. This is located far right firewall under the glare shield behind the fuse column. I am wondering what this coil like part is. There are 2 rubber boots. Attached to one is a wire putting out .25v all the tiime from one of those boots, unaffected by master/avionics. There is a large connector as well. I have the diagram if someone could tell me what this might be. Also, does anyone have a list of all the likely in line fuses under pass and pilot dash? I am labeling them as fast as I can isolate them. There are 5 under the pass g-shield. Tks Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 The thing with the two red boots is the ammeter shunt. 2 Quote
carusoam Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 Would you recognize a shunt if you saw one? I’m not able to see it very clearly, and I’m not exactly sure of its location... But the shunt is a low resistance, calibrated resistor, That is used to measure current being used by the plane... Rich, beat me to the post! Best rgerads, -a- Quote
Yetti Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 The second pic is a military connector with multiple conductors/wires in it. I forget the common name of them. https://www.alliedelec.com/amphenol-industrial-ms3102e14s-5p/70143498/?mkwid=sPpjQ7qdz&pcrid=30980760979&gclid=CjwKCAjw8r_XBRBkEiwAjWGLlC0tfR4vb3zwLdM1LcK7yfpe6hW95gsSwaHbBXNlQiN_DDniXAd10RoC8mgQAvD_BwE Quote
Yetti Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 Generally in that position on the other side of the firewall in an F there is a noise filter to keep spikes out of the electrical system. Quote

N231SM Posted May 7, 2018 Author Report Posted May 7, 2018 OK. A shunt. Is that what I am looking for in the wiring diagram? Small one- # 18 probably. I have a wire coming off one of the boots that looks like it should go somewhere. Tks Quote
Mooneymite Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 The thin wires off the shunt go to the ammeter, I believe. 1 Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 I don’t have a K model schematic at home, but that is a shunt. Normally for the ammeter, the small wires normally pass through 2 in line glass fuses, one in each wire. Clarence Quote
tony Posted May 7, 2018 Report Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) I think he is taking about the silver box to the right of the shunt. Edited May 7, 2018 by tony Quote

Guest Posted May 8, 2018 Report Posted May 8, 2018 Without knowing what equipment is installed, I can only guess. The black box with the cannon connector might be a prop device timer? Clarence Quote

Warren Posted May 8, 2018 Report Posted May 8, 2018 Hi N231SM, We are neighbors. I am at Metro airport. I have a 1985 K. The box with the round connector looks like the BF Goodrich prop heat timer module. I have a full set of wiring diagrams if you want to look at or borrow them. PM me if interested. Warren Quote

N231SM Posted May 8, 2018 Author Report Posted May 8, 2018 Hello all, I finally figured out it is a shunt for the prop de-ice ammeter. There should be a fuse on each wire going to the meter. The connector looks like the connector that goes to the prop de-ice timer. So, again.........what a fantastic knowledge base. Jim 3 Quote
