201er Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 I'll be flying out to Texas soon so you cowboys can all start getting in line for autographs. Planning to arrive in Addison KADS (near Dallas), Thursday March 1st in the evening. Will be staying in Carrollton till Sunday March 4. And on Sunday flying to Georgetown KGTU (near Austin), staying in Round Rock. Will be traveling with Mooney, wife, and parrots. 2 Quote
rainman Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 Mike, my Mooney is in for it's annual and my gyroplane is in the engine shop or I'd drop in to say hello from San Antonio. Enjoy the trip. Ray 1 Quote
DonMuncy Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 Mike, If you get time while you are here, give me a call. We can buy you and the wife coffee, lunch or dinner. 214 207-6744. If you need anything, let me know. I have been in Dallas for over 50 years. Don Quote
Yetti Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 There is no flying weather in Texas right now. You have been warned. Quote

Yetti Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 Because front lines come in and then stall on the coast. Then it is rain, fog, rain, fog, fog Quote
DonMuncy Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 In Dallas, it was horrible for the last week, but now it is forecast for on-again off-again for the next week. At this time, Thursday looks pretty good. But it is Texas, and subject to change every couple of hours. Quote
smccray Posted February 26, 2018 Report Posted February 26, 2018 Fly safe . If you encounter any problems give me a call. Forecasting in TX is difficult at times- I recommend reading the aviation forecast discussions by the meteorologists that write the TAFs. That will give you a good idea how confident they are. Lately they haven't been very confident. This morning was forecast at 500 overcast in fog. Ceiling was unlimited when I got my clearance, fog blew in, and it ended up being as forecast when I took off. I was on top by 1000 AGL and it wasn't soupy. I was on instruments not looking around, but from above it didn't look that bad. If you end up tangling with convective activity, keep in mind that it tends to move very fast here. No clue how it compares to the north east, but I suspect cells move much more quickly. Quote

201er Posted March 1, 2018 Author Report Posted March 1, 2018 Well this could get interesting! https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N4361H Quote
201er Posted March 1, 2018 Author Report Posted March 1, 2018 (edited) And before anyone says I’m losing my edge stopping for gas, it’s only because gas at KTKX is really cheap and crazy expensive at Addison. I have enough left to make it to Addison but then I’d have to pay $6.80 for 85 gallons instead of $3.38! Jose may have some crackpot ideas about wd40, pissing on his plane, and stuff but he sure got these long range tanks right! Edited March 1, 2018 by 201er 6 Quote
Hank Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Looks like you're hitting the weather pretty well, slicing nicely between systems. Here's hoping your luck holds. Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Lousy ground speeds! Hopefully the ride is smooth since it will be a long day.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk 1 Quote

KSMooniac Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Pic didn't come thru for me.I'm planning to fly to McKinney on Saturday morning and depart on Sunday. It is a much easier/cheaper stop than KADS, FWIW. Sunday weather looks sketchy right now, unfortunately.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Quote
carusoam Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Mike, can you get a picture of a parrot flying from the tail towards the instrument panel? This would probably qualify as the fastest parrot flying in the world. What could be better than a fact like that at a parrot conference? or a convention of physics students discussing the net forces on the plane implied by the bird in flight. Best regards, -a- Quote

Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Good thing he's in a Mooney, ground speeds dropped into the double digits (and that's MPH)! Some serious headwinds... 1 Quote
Marauder Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 If I saw 86 knot ground speeds, I would land and spend the night. 2 Quote

thinwing Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Of course if winds aloft at 6000 produced a 70 K headwind where I fly....I'd be trying to set a new wave record in the sailplane!! 1 Quote

carusoam Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Gotta love the updated pics from the Victor road... Coming back behind those big Hs on the weather map is going to be more fun! Best regards, -a- Quote
