Cris Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 I have a Mooney Eagle that has the typical white with a couple of stripes (metallic blue & metallic grey) I just had the fuel tanks resealed & unfortunately the wings will need to be touched up at the paint shop. Overall the paint is in excellent condition. However, as a result of it having to be touched up anyway I am also planning to repaint just the fuselage below the stripes in an Ovation design with the color carried thru the tail. The numbers sit high & will not be redone. The interior is a medium blue leather with grey carpets. Originally I wanted red to give it a more standout look with the existing stripes but am also considering blue. Were most of these long bodies done in a metallic? It would be more cost effective with a standard color but I want the correct look. Suggestion for paint codes/colors as well as pictures would be appreciated. Thanks Quote
WardHolbrook Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Have you checked your airframe logbooks for the paint codes? Quote
flight2000 Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 I agree with Ward. The paint codes should be in your logbook and if not, I'd give Mooney a call and see if they have the paint codes for your aircraft on file (more than likely they do). Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 I used a free-lancing scheme designer (that used to own a Mooney) when I got my J repainted a couple years ago...very reasonable price and I was extremely pleased with the process. He has all of the paint codes and accurate line drawings to produce a very detailed rendering of the schemes... if you're interested in contacting him PM me and I'll send you his info. I can't speak for him, but perhaps the price might be reduced since you plan to work around the existing stripes. In any case, he could probably give you a few ideas to think about! I know I ended up with a different scheme than I had in mind originally. and I like it much better after going through the process. Quote
Cris Posted April 10, 2011 Author Report Posted April 10, 2011 Thanks much for the input I do have the current codes for the white base & the metallic stripes. What I am looking for are suggestions for a red or blue in either a standard or metalic color that will be for the new paint scheme below the existing stripes & carried up thru the tail. If at all possible. I'd really like to stay with a local paint shop. In the past I have used Reece brothers in Robbinsvile N.J. Quote
Cris Posted April 15, 2011 Author Report Posted April 15, 2011 Hey Guys I know a bunch of you have red or blue long body paint schemes. I'd just like to know the factory color (metallic or not) and/or code for the lower fuselage. And a picture would be great tso show it off!! Quote
carusoam Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Cris, Mine was done at Reese several years ago... Detailed numbers are probably in the log books, but Reese is the source... Description from the guys who sold the plane...."White Over Blue with Silver Lasar stripes and a Red Accent Stripe. Modified Bravo/Ovation Scheme. Repainted in 2001" The blue I have is metallic with color shifting depending on viewing / lighting angle.... Mitch's red has a much newer looking scheme. Best regards, -a- Quote
