Taracka Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 I have a C model and I’m curious, with the preloads set correctly per spec, how far from the latch socket do you start feeling preload resistance in the J-bar ( when lowering the gear) before you push the bar the rest of the way to the latch socket. I’m getting about a finger width between the J-bar and latch socket and wondering if that is typical. thanks , Rich Quote
Andy95W Posted February 5, 2018 Report Posted February 5, 2018 Not sure what you meant by a finger width between the J-bar and latch socket. Mine is very smooth until about the last 1/2" of movement just before I slide the latch up. It sounds like yours isn't quite right, somehow. If the gear is rigged correctly, the most likely causes of binding before getting to the latch socket are: -too much carpet bunching up between the J-bar and nose wheel hump -the sock/booty at the J-bar base bunching or binding -the slider is stiff and hasn't been lubricated in a while (this one happened to me, it felt like I had a full inch of carpet getting smashed in front of the J-bar. It was just the friction of trying to push and slide at the same time that made it feel off.) You can check all of these things in flight. Bring along some silicone spray and you can lube the slider. You should have another pilot with you, of course. Quote
