markejackson02 Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 In one of my stupid pet tricks I managed to drop the little tiny set screw holding my heading bug knob onto the DG into the belly of the aircraft. Gone forever. It looks like a 4-40 1/8" screw. Can't find a part number or reference in the parts manual. Anyone know what it is? Quote
ShuRugal Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 take the knob to the hardware store and try it out on the thread size pegboard. Quote
Piloto Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 Good luck on finding a screw. Go to an avionics/instrument shop and see if you can get a knob from a discarded DG. Or contact the DG manufacturer. José 1 Quote
takair Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 or go to the local RC hobby shop and get some "wheel collars" and salvage the set screw....or if you are sure it is 4-40, I think I have some, just PM me your address... Quote
thinwing Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 Ace hardware...try a regular 4/40 screw to see if matches..the other possibility is 1/8 th or 2/56...no prob Quote
Hank Posted November 27, 2017 Report Posted November 27, 2017 When I lost mine, I took a selection of set screws home from work. Don't recall if it was #4-40 or #3-48, but it's pretty short. Go to your local hardware store and buy one of each set screw, #2-56. #3-48 and #4-40. If you can buy one of each, about 1/8" long, shouldn't be much more than $1; a hobby shop [RC planes, trains, etc.] should have little 4-packs of them for a couple bucks each. Take the knob with you and see if they will let you test fit; the hardware store won't be a problem, the screws are probably in a little gray drawer a foot wide with a couple dozen compartments inside. LANCECASPER Posted November 28, 2017 Report Posted November 28, 2017 Or you could go to Aircraft Spruce ant type in "set screw" http://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?s=set+screw&x=0&y=0 Quote
