I'm not going to say that is or isn't a good value, but you could make the same thing for about $500. You'd need:

Motor driver: $125

Radio: $100

Battery: $40

Motors, gearboxes, wheels: $150

Mechanics: $100

It'd take a handy guy a weekend to cobble together.
