Starter drive lubrication

I have a starter with a bendix that occasionaly wont engage fly-wheel. It probably needs lube? What type? Silicone? Can I just squirt away at whatever I can access or is there a special proceedure to this?

You should first clean the drive by spraying contact cleaner first and then silicone lubricant only. If the drive shaft is partly corroded you will still have the problem after lubrication. Best option is to replace the starter with the new Sky-Tech in-line starter. They do not use the Bendix mechanism for drive engage.
