Marauder Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Anyone know if he is a member on this site? Looking at the pictures, it looks like a bladder equipped plane. The fuel spill patterns are separate, which in my mind suggests a couple of separate compromised bladders. Be curious to know more. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Hank Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 I thought the fuel spills coincided with when the wings each hit things and broke. Doesn't matter if bladders were in them or. It, tear the wing off, fuel will gush out. 1 Quote
jetdriven Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 That prop was not turning when he landed. He (or she) is lucky those wings took the brunt of the crash energy. Looks like a superb outcome given the circumstances. Hopefully the pilot can comment on the event after the investigation is complete. 2 Quote
cnoe Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 You'd think with that registration he could have slipped it in and greased it on. Clarence Took me a minute there Doc. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
DAVIDWH Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 |Sun and Fun Acclaim: What was the outcome of that one? Sun and fun Acclaim landed (High time Mooney test pilot) gear up residential street. Pilot unhurt, no pedestrians injured, aircraft burned badly after pilot exit. Quote

Would be interesting to know if there has been a study on this... It is tragic how often it is he fire that gets people, not the crash landing. Glad to see nothing ignited, there was plenty of opportunity. Quote

Maybe add a second to the time-to-empty through the gaping hole? If you're talking a run of the mill leading edge dent, sure, but not damage of this scale. Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 REALLY pleased with the outcome. No pilot or pedestrian injuries. No fire. Could have been so much worse. Just bent metal on cars and some avionics for the needy. Good Job KY. Way to slide in the hole and come....out safely. 1 Quote

There are 3 or 4 interconnected rubber tanks per wing. If nothing punctured them, the only place they would leak out is the fuel line connected to the fuselage. On a wet wing, once the wing was compromised, all of the fuel would have come out. The fuel pattern on the ground suggests a leak, not a spray. If the plane did a full 180 with the wing torn open, I would have expected fuel to be in an arc pattern, not two distinct puddles. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Marauder Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 It would interesting to know how much fuel was on board. Those puddles don't look that big. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Marauder Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Looking at the Spill pattern again, why would there be a separate spill from the main location of the plane other than possibly a dislodged bladder sitting in the street and draining out? Quote

Yetti Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 I was thinking movie lines such as: "I don't often use the center line of public streets but when I do, I rip off the right wing with fuel so it gets dumped out on the street and I can safely exit the plane" "rolling like a mad dog getting rid of the wings" Quote

This video as well as the video taken of the helicopter going down are amazing. I would be ducking and getting OUT OF THE WAY vs. standing there and capturing the video. Just an amazing amount of energy into that car on the bounce. Could have been so much worse. Walked away.....OUTSTANDING. AND lucky. Quote

It looked to me like the car might have bounced due to running over the airplane's wing unevenly and that maybe very little kinetic energy was actually exchanged between the moving car and airplane. N33GG Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Skill good enough. Luck off the chart. The pilot ought to go buy a lottery ticket. I would still bet on a string of law suits.... Quote
