Ha ha probably what one can expect after a refueling event, I of course would never fly with a sponge as a replacement gas cap. Urs_Wildermuth Posted March 23, 2016 Author Report Posted March 23, 2016 Ok, the handywork is done, the new fuel caps and fillers installed. The airplane made the post annual test flight and ferry back to Zurich Airport today and is back in action. Thanks again to Don Maxwell and Seiferle Aviation at Speck Fehraltdorf. 4 Quote
carusoam Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 Urs, congrats on getting that issue taken care of. do you see any green 100 avgas in your area? We are blue 100LL only still. Best regards, -a- Quote
Urs_Wildermuth Posted March 25, 2016 Author Report Posted March 25, 2016 I've never seen any green 100 Avgas in my life. What we do see is 91UL, which I am told we can use but for which I lack the documentation. That is why there is no sticker there. But I am on that. Quote
carusoam Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Urs, The O's IO550 is 100 able. But I have never seen it either. Best regards, -a- Quote
deanders Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 I have two shaw aero caps I removed from my M20E . I installed O&N bladders so I no longer need them. I bought one used a year ago from LASER for $250.00 and had to replace the orings. Both caps are in good shape and have new orings. Make me an offer if your interested. Dennis Quote
Jeff Reiter Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 I also have these thermos fuel caps on my 62 M20C. One side was weeping fuel, the other not. I took the caps off and compared them. The one that works properly was a darker color on the outside rubber. Upon closer inspection I discovered that someone had taken electrical tape and just wrapped it around the diameter one layer, and that made it a perfect seal. I'm not saying I recommend it, but I've had the plane for a year and it works fine that way. Go figure. Must be about a 2 cent repair. Quote
carusoam Posted November 27, 2020 Report Posted November 27, 2020 Please Use caution with that logic Jeff... Works today, but may fall apart later, is not the strategy shared by factory built planes... There are real replacement parts made for those items... they don’t have to be 50 years old... Electrical tape is probably not 100LL proof, either is the glue holding it in place... I would expect the glue may even be soluble in fuel... Things that dissolve in fuel, have a tendency to show up again when/where the fuel evaporates... PP thoughts only, not criticizing another man’s Mooney... Best regards, -a- Quote
